i used joomla 1.0.1 with the mos thumb mambot (replacement for the mos image mambot) and everything worked fine.
now with joomla 1.0.2, the mosthumb mambot doesn't work anymore. does anyone know why? the images just aren't display anymore.

Note I havent used MOSThumb, but this is a pretty reasonable guess

MOSThumb is an addon that only works by hacking the core - to replace mosimage.

So any patch will of course overwrite the hacks required by MOSThumb to work.

Suggest you read the instructions for MOSThumb again or reinstall MOSThumb

Stingrey I too am having this problem on a clients site.  I tried unistalling and reinstalling and that doesnt seem to work.  In the backend the mosimage tags are still there but nothing is appearing on the frontend.  Any more suggestions??

Wish I had time to look into this, but as it is an Addon I unfortunately have other more pressing Core Related matters - sorry such is the nature of priorities.

The only advice I can give is read all the documentation and instructions regards MOSThumb.

It maybe possible a fix for a bug may have affected this mambot, meaning it may need to be reworked.
But without the time to look at the code of MOSThumb I cant really cant give much in solutions.

What has changed since 1.0.1 > 1.0.2?

The addon works fine fith Joomla 1.0.1 but not with 1.0.2. Just doupleChecked..

I am using mosthumbs widely with my clients and started to upgrade all sites to latest release, but until this image issue is fixed/bug founded can't continue with upgrading..

Debugged a littlebit and found that {mosimage}  is parsed and thumb is generated and saved to cache dir (mambots/content/mosthumb/thumbs) but nothing appears at the page.

Something works, but the actual job (show image) doesn't ..  :'(

@wroxbox:
yes, you're right.
the necessary and correct html tags are stored in the array $images but the {mosimages} tags are not correctly replaced.
but i couldn't find any big differences between the replacement of these tags in mosimages.php and mosthumb.php

Has anyone checked to see if mos thumb is published or even available to publish? I asked because it doesn't show up in the Mambots list even though it was installed (and tells me when I try to reinstall) So that could be one issue.

i'm sure that the bug is not in mosthumb itself. if i change the regex in mosthumb.php to posimage for instance and change my {mosimage} tags to {posimage}, the thumbnails are inserted correctly.
i assume that even if the mosimage bot is unpublished, somehow the {mosimage} tags are replaced with '' before mosthumb.php replaces them with the new html string.

if you really need mosthumb and can't wait for the joomla-fix:

change the $regex = '#{mosimage}#s'; around line 200 into $regex = '/{yourtag\s*.*?}/i';
and replace the {mosimage} tags in your content with {yourtag}

hope it helps,
nick

ok, then i found the ultimate solution for you!!!

open mosimage.php in the mambots/content folder and replace {mosimage} on line 26 with something else: for instance with {mosimage2}
because mosimage.php replaced every {mosimage} with '' even if the bot wasn't published!

(maybe you also could switch the positions of the mosthumb and mosimage bot in the administration menu, because if the mosthumb bot would be processed before the mosimage bot, it should work also - but i haven't tested it...)

yes! my second solution works also!

just swith the positions of the mosthumb and mosimage mambot in the "site mambots" menu.
for instance:

mambot name        order
mosthumb                1
mosimage                  2

Haven't read stingrey's post before (just applied the fix and was happy). Just thought that someone may be interested in the fact that MosThumb does NOT require any hacking. MosThumb DOES take over the function of MosImage but it is installed additionally to MosImage and MosImage just has to be unpublished. That is all. No files need to be modified.

From reading posts, the reason why the mambot no longer works in 1.0.2 is clear.

Its due to a bug fix in relation to how content mambots are managed.

In 1.0.1 and below, once you unpublish a content mambot, it is no longer processed.
Now this creates a problem in that it leaves {mosimage} and {mospagebreak} tags in your content, as the bot is no longer processed and can no longer even remove those instances.

In 1.0.2, content mambots are left to check for the state of the mambot (published or not) within the code.

So what is happening is that as MOSImage is triggered first, it removes instances of the {mosimage} tag, thus meaning MOSThumb finds no tags to process.
But making MOSThumb parse before MOSImage (by ordering it higher) you remove this problem.

I just upgraded from Mambo 4.53 to Joomla 1.02 and MOSThumb is not working. In the Mambot Manager it tells me I cannot change the psoition of MOS Image so the solution above is not working. Any idea why it will not let me reorder it...or am I missing something?

I did an upgrade to joomla 1.03 from Mambo 4.5.2 and now I have this error:

Warning: imagejpeg(): Unable to open '/home/show/public_html/portal/mambots/content/mosthumb/thumbs/IMG_8490.jpg' for writing in /home/show/public_html/portal/mambots/content/mosthumb/class.img2thumb.inc on line 233

It's strange because the thumbs are show below these lines and if I click on, the image are correct. but I have many line of these errors

That's actually a known bug in PHP 4.4.1 itself.  They messed up the security
check for the image-writing functions, they only work if the file already
exists (instead of checking for writability they are checking for readability.

The fix is to touch() the file just prior to calling imagejpeg() so that it exists,
then it passes the test and works.

I've had the same problem, but then i changed persmission for /home/show/public_html/portal/mambots/content/mosthumb/thumbs/ to 777 and it worked for me.
