Caveats
1. A standard Joomla! 1.0.x installation does not support SSL for individual directories, such as administrator , however there are various hacks, which should be considered experimental, power-admin techniques. I think Joomla! 1.0.12 and 1.5 will have greatly increased options in this area. Stay tuned...
2. Note that earlier techniques involving the variable $mosConfig_live_site are depreciated, and will not work with current Joomla! versions due to increased security enhancements.
