Anyone up to creating a plugin where the admin can set usernames in a list that can not be registered. Instead of registering lot's of accounts to block some usernames the admin could easily block administrator, support, sitename, root or whatever they feel is suitable.

Maybe this cannot be a plugin and must be a hack...

This could be done with a mambot quite easily. Maybe I will even make one when I get the time  :)

It does look like a sensible thing anyone with user-contributed content would want.
I wouldn't want someone posting as "webmaster" or "admin" if it's just a regular user who tought it'd be cool to use that name..

It has been submitted to the extensions and is awaiting approval.

But on my own site I have already approved it  ;D

EDIT: It's now available on extensions: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

The new version will also allow you to limit registrations to certain email addresses. Like if you have a company website and only what the employees to register.

It is very usable and needed mambot, but i can not use at the moment because i have a long registration form, and if someone register and fill the long qurestion form and than the name is blocked, the registration form returns empty  :(  it is not good for a user which must fill again all the stuff and maybe choice again a blocked name and see again empty fields !  :o

Is it possible to edit the mambot that all the Adds in registration Form still stay when a choisen a blocked name?

Joomla doesn't come with any "long registration form"?
If you're using another component / custom form, you should integrate the checks into form submission instead of trying to use this mambot..
marlar is on hollidays, expect an answer next year ;)

I have ideas for keeping the form data intact. It can not be done with a simple hack, though. So you will have to wait a bit :)

Ideally the browser should not destroy the content of the form when you go back, but it does ...

Hi all! I have a question...
Is there any way to limit the number of registration , modifying this mambots? For example that after 5 registration the 6th user receive a message like "sorry, maximum number of registration reached"
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Yes, that would be possible by making a lookup in the database. I will put in on the wishlist, but currently I can't tell when I will get the time.

Hi,

This is probably not *supposed* a support thread as such but I'm pretty sure whatever I'm doing/not doing is the problem and was hoping a user of this bot could help rather than emailing the developer.

I've installed the mambot mosregistrationblocker version 1.1 on Joomla 1.0.11 Stable. I published it, added a few usernames to be dis-allowed  *admin* *webmaster* etc and tried to register with 'sysadmin' and some derivations and al the registrations worked as normal. I do have CB installed but looking at the bot's files it seems to allow for this. I don't know really where to look/how to proceed to find what I'm doing wrong or what might be wrong.

I've included a screenshot of the admin panel for the bot. I'd really appreciate some pointers on this.

Just need to be sure: did you register from the frontend? You can still register those usernames from the backend.

Thank you marlar,

The registrations I tried were from the front end. I'm going to try it on another site to see if it's my test site that's doing something and I'll report back.

I wonder if bot could be extended like that it would block certain domain extences? like *@*.ru or *@*.it? i've been getting alot of bot registrations from those addresses and would be kind of good to get rid of them  :-[

Can now block domains as well as IP's.

Will update the website soon.

I am wondering how to use the blocker mambot?  Where do you define what domains to block from registration?  I'm new to using mambots and when I try to access the mambot to edit is (like you would a module or component), it tells me restricted access.  Please help.

Hi,

I'd also like the idea behind this mambot, so I'd installed it. I configured it to disallow the usernames webmaster and info, and the email *@spam.la. Unfortunately it doesn't work :(

I'm using Joomla 1.0.12, CB 1.0.2, JSMF 2.0.2 with CB login. The mambot is published, access level is public, mambot order is first.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Michael

Can you be more specific in what it does or does not?
