I'm looking for an uptodate tut on templates, how to build and how they work. The only one I keep finding is the ?ambosolutions 4.5.1 one. I can see things are a lot more advanced now. Also is there a more uptodate extension for dreamweaver than the one on the same tut.  ?ambosolutions 453.

good questions.  I'm also curious.  I still use the old patch for dreamweaver and it works fine... so far.  Am not sure until when that would be.

I think pretty much everything in the tutorial from mambosolutions still applies to joomla at this point.  So is the DW extension.

But perhaps your best bet to learn templates is to "decompose" existing ones.  Find a template that looks somewhat similar to what you want to achieve, and take it down, break it apart, analyse it.

It's really not that difficult, actually.

Your template is just an html page in which you throw php calls for the different areas you want to display.  The "tags" for the main body and user modules are perhaps the only tricky bits to know.

There may be other tuts out there, I don't know, haven't looked for tuts in too long :/

Aye you will learn the quickest by picking one apart, I found the JavaBean template thats already installed in Joomla is good if you are wanting a 3 column template, it keeps everything nice and simple.

Hi,

I use dreamweaver and the plug-in for mambo. So, I was doing a search for Joomla! template stuff the other day and found this http://www.joomlasolutions.com/. It is by the creator of the original mambo extension for Dreamweaver.

here is the link to the tuthttp://www.joomlasolutions.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=58

It says mambo, but the methods and techniques are the same for both. The difference is in the coding for the calls (jos_ instead of mos_) They have other mods there and the standalone server (WIN PC only). Hope this helps.
