Hey people,

We're going to be organizing a Joomla conference this summer in New York (Manhattan) and I thought to start the thread and feel out whether people think the end of June would work for them.

Qasim./

Moderator note: it will be an official Joomla!Day just changed the title to have the wording clear

Hey Qasim,

We're definitely planning on starting a user group here - so I'm more than happy to volunteer my help in that regard. Feel free to PM me for details, maybe we can combine our efforts?

Mitch and Q -

That is *way cool.* Thanks for taking the initiative to get the word out in NYC about Joomla!. The two of you will be a great team! Two of my most favorite J! people. Manhattan. Joomla!. Perfect!

I'd love to be there, too. I love Manhattan. And June is a great time to be there, too. But, Louis says we have to be "in the area" so, Nebraskans are probably out. That's probably best for Manhattan.  ;)

Please let us know how things go!

Amy :)

Hi Qasim,

as Brian pointed out correctly the term "Joomla! conference" or "Joomla!Day" are protected names and if you like to do something like that you need to request this officially by me. Best you send me a mail with your details and I send you the charter document.

I personally would argue that "conference" might not be the right term for the usage as this is something which really something that is going to be organised by the core team and there we might have an issue with the naming.

I suggest you name it a New York Joomla!Day as this allows you to have a conference style as well.

Sorry for being peeky about the names, but we need to watch those things.

Cheers and looking forward to reading your application

Alex

Hi guys,
I'm new to Joomla and would love to attend the conference.

Also, if anyone would be interested in gettting together to discuss Joomla before then, similar to the metups that occur all over the city, we could do that too.

Gene

I'd be glad to help out as well.  I enjoy any reason to get into the city which doesn't involve a Broadway show.  :pop

Hey guys,

I'm a Montreal Joomla! user (and Joomlashack customer  ;) @ Barrie) that might be interested in attending the NYC Joomla!Day. Sounds like it could be a pretty cool bike ride south of the border so if anyone from the area reads this post and thinks it might just be a plan, drop me a message  8)

As far as the dates are concerned, I already have a ride planned for Father's Day week-end but aside from that, should be fine with me.

Ciao,
Stéphane

Hi all,

any news on this one?

I was told the you guys have been set in contact with Ryan from the USA West coast event and was wondering if there will be something on the East cost this year.

Thanks for a short note

Alex

There will definitely be an event in NYC this year, I will personally see to it. Been wanting to do this for a long time.

After talking with Chris Justice and others, it makes sense to let the left-coast events happen first, and then leverage what was learned (and created) for the NYC event.

Considering how the summers are here - and how deserted the city is - we're much better off shooting for a September timeframe.

I am definately interested in going to this.
Would be especially interested if anyone
attending was actually living in southern
westchester. I've lived in and out of Manhattan
for 10 years but now find myself in southern
westchester on the border with the city.
(15 minutes from the city and 28 minutes from midtown).
I'm NOT interested in splintering any group
off or starting anything different. Just ESPECIALLY
interested if anyone attending is from
southern westchester. It would be great
to pay/barter with anyone who is a joomla
expert in my area. i'm still green but have much to
learn and have much to offer for guidance/help
(I can edit film with FCP, music
lessons or music production, photography, web
design...SEO...and consulting, etc...)

Look forward to any Manhattan meeting that
will be happening. Love the city.

Thanks.

P.S.  Has anyone come up with an idea of a
particular day of the week. A weekend would be
best i think.
(I humbly bow my head and leave the room)
:)

There is a nice place in Midtown-Manthattan a building owned by CitiGroup where the whole lobby is opened to the public as part of some kind of company's deal to the city. The lobby has  chairs and tables- huge place. There are restaurants and food stands too. This place is accessible by trains, buses coming from any part of the boroughs and trains that are accessible for transfer from Metro North trains (out of the city joomler). I am not sure what street this building is located but I know it is around 53rd street and 5th avenue or 3rd avenue. I mentioned this place because this might be a venue for a group meeting. Again, the information I provided has to be doubled check. I might get back soon if I have some updates. Or for those who are familiar with this Free Place for All, please don't hesitate to share your info. Thanks!

Another alternative if the the weather is nice might be Central Park at the Great lawn or wherever you decide that is convenient for everybody--well not everybody but majority of the participants.

what do you think about battery park city? there is an atrium with 75 foot palm trees, tables, chairs, there is an outdoor area next to the hudson river with restaurants and a park that stretches all the way south and almost completely north to the bridge. it's a longer haul for me (than 53rd street citibank - which sounds good) but i love it there. peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful. if that is too far downtown for anyone, that is fine with me as i'm out of manhattan in southern westchester.
