It took me a little while to figure this one out, so I thought I would pass on the answer...

Firstly, you need to already have an animated favicon created. Since they don’t work for all browsers at this moment, it would be wise to include a static favicon too. Therefore these instructions are to tell you how to install your own custom favicons on your new Red Barchetta.

Once you have Red Barchetta running, go to where you have it installed, to the root folder. For me on HighWire PC webhosting, this the “public_html” folder of that domain. In there you will see all the stuff that goes into a Joomla! installation.

If you are running the new Beta 2 for the first time, you might not know it, but you are using the “rhuk_milkyway” template. This is a good thing just to know, so keep that in mind. This is a totally different template, so you won’t find this one in the answers for 1.0! So in your root folder you will find another folder named “templates” and in there your will find the folder for the rhuk_milkyway template. This is where your source code for the website is hiding! This is also where you will find the image that you want to change in order to have your custom image in the header.

It is directly in this folder that you want to upload your two favicon images. The static one should be named “favicon.ico” and the animated one should be named “animated_favicon1.gif”. Now what I do next is DOWNLOAD the “index.php” file from the same folder to my desktop. Then I open that file with my WYSIWYG editor, GoLive. Then I go into the Source Code near the top of the page. I need to add the code so the animation will kick in.

(Now if you just want a static favicon, then you were done after you uploaded your favicon into the correct place. I do not know code, so I can not figure out where it is, but the code is already there for the favicon. And you were just basically replacing the Joomla! Favicon with your own by shoving it out.)

You need to place the HTML code in the area between and .

This is what you will be looking for:

direction == 'rtl') : ?>

Now you just need to stick one line of code just before the bottom

So now the Source Code looks like this:

direction == 'rtl') : ?>

Then go back to where you downloaded that index.php file and either rename it (like add a 1 to it) or erase it. Then uploaded the corrected index.php file back into its place.

Now go use another computer running the FireFox browser, or totally refresh your computer’s FireFox cache and check it out!

To see my own custom animated favicon and to see how I am butchering Joomla! and the Florida Gators for the first time, go to  http://whyijoomla.com

Hi there Rgator,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Your post will always remind me about changing my favicon icon sooner or later.

Yeah, I am a weirdo and usually something like favicons, espcially the animated one, is one of the first things I think of.

It was REALLY bugging me last night and I was refusing to go to bed until I learned the answer, but finally gave up. So today I decided it was what I was going to do. Now I am going to go out for dinner.

I am just a simple Mac user with no training in ANYTHING, so this is all just a big, strange trip. I have a lot of wild ideas and I know I will never get them done in GoLive!

Really looking forwards in working with everyone. I want to learn to be good at this.

Thanks in advance!
