Hi fellas..

How do I add a "telephone number" to the contact us form?

ie. Someone clicks the "contact us" link on my site.  and in addition to an input box for name, email address, message subject and enter your message.

I would like a "contact number" in there too.

I hope this explains it clearly enough.

thank in advance for any help.

Steve

Components > Contacts > Contact Manager. Choose the Contact you want to display the telephone number for, and fill all the relevant details including the telephone number.

In the backend,

Go to Menu Manager, and open mainmenu. You should see 'Contact Us' near the bottom.
Click on 'Contact Us' and then look over to the right, under Parameters.

Towards the bottom there is a field called Telephone Column, click the radio button that says "Show"

Hope this helps

For that, I would suggest a Joomla extension like:

Facile Forms

http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

or Fabrik

http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Facile Forms is much easier to understand and learn...

Facile Forms is easier than it appears. If you got this far with Joomla, you'll be able to figure out Facile Forms. Make sure you watch the flash demo on the website

Hi, SteveOh!
If you're feeling up to it, it's a fairly simple task to edit the contact form and add in additional fields.
First, open components/com_contact/contact.html.php in a text editor. Add the following at Line 673 (after the preceding
tag)
Code:
<label for="contact_telephone">
                  <?php echo(_TELEPHONE_PROMPT);?>
               </label>
               <br />
               <input type="text" name="telephone" id="contact_telephone" size="30" class="inputbox" value="" />
               <br />

Then, open joomla/language/english.php and insert the following (at line 159)
Code:
DEFINE('_TELEPHONE_PROMPT',' Enter your telephone number:');

And that should do it! Quicker than learning Facile  ;) (but subject to wiping out if Joomla files over-written, so keep a note of what ya did!).
HTH,
John Mc

Quote:
This is an enquiry e-mail via http://www.mysite.co.uk/portal from:
test

Testing

No sign of the phone number they have input...

Any ideas?

I guess that's what you get for jumping straight in without testing first.
I've also now tried it and get the same result. Hmm. Unfortunately been busy decorating today (got to keep the Missus happy  ;)), and I won't be here for a couple of days, so haven't had a lot of time to try figgering this out. But the "content" of the mail form is obviously being processed somehow/somewhere (is that "parsed"?) and is ignoriing our new field... just can't see where/how... and I sure ain't a php guru! I guess we're "half-way" there, 'coz at least the validation built into the contact.html.php for the mail form itself isn't choking on it!
Gotta leave this one with ya, bud!
Good luck. I'll check back in a couple of days (in case you beat me to an answer! heheh.  :D).
John Mc

Guys, Facile Forms literally takes 10 minutes, and you can have the phone number or any other data you want, and you can run reports from the backend, or export the data.

You can add a Thank You message, anything

It's really easy, AND you do not have to mess with Core Code, which can be hazardous to your site when Joomla is upgraded.

Check out the pic, I added a Phone Number, and Subject Dropdown so that I could sort the emails by subject

I have found a number of good threads here that point to changing the com_contact files. This is great for simple additions to the form, but what about adding check boxes, drop-downs and other form information?

If you use FacileForms, can these custom forms be displayed within the contact component?

Here's what I found on changing the component file for adding fields:

# Additional field mod for contact component
#
# This was written and tested for Joomla 1.0.7. It will probably work for 1.0.x, but might not for 1.x and later
#
##############################################################
## Before Adding This MOD To Your System, You Should Back Up All Files Related To This MOD
##############################################################
#
#-----[ OPEN ]------------------------------------------
#
components/com_contact/contact.html.php
#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#

You da Man!
That seems to work, perfectly! I had figgered out just enough to know the answers were in amongst the stripslashes string, but that's where it beat me.
Thanks for taking the time to help out a couple of doofuses!  :laugh:

PS - I searched high and low and couldn't find that answer... You wouldn't mind pointing me at it would ya? Cheers again!

Does the jmc edit require facile forms or not?

Hi, Dattard!
No- Facile Forms is not required if you follow the steps sip has outlined here. It just works! The edit I supplied will only add extra fields to the Contact form. I did not know how to make this new information appear in the Contact e-mail. Sip has shown us the correct way to do it.
But - it IS a mod of core files, so it would be over-written if the 3 Joomla files (contact.php, contact.html.php and english.php) are upgraded at any time in the future...
Use at your own risk!  ;)
John Mc
