Skype FAQ

Post by Rogue4ngel » Tue Aug 21, 2007 2:19 pm

Anyone interested in contributing a short Skpe faq, we're definitely in need of some instructional information that we will sticky when it's complete.

Here's what we have for instructions on the Wiki.

Skype Chat Room for Joomla! Developers
If you have not used Skype before, read the Skype Getting Started instructions. Note: You do not need to purchase any Skype resources, only those capabilities offered free of charge are needed.

Once you have Skype installed and configured, connect to the J!101 Coding 101 Chat Room:
rename it to j101.py
chmod +x j101.py
start skype
at the shell, do: ./j101.py
HTH,
Amy :)

Not so young, actually!  :P  But, thank you for your kind words! I was pleased to see that v 1.0.13 fixed your ItemID issues.

Tim -

I "left" the J!101 chat and now can't get back in. I also suggested to Vivek this could be a good resource to learn.

Is it possible to change the group membership rules so it doesn't require approval?

Thanks!
Amy :)

Let me see what I can do.  I think that's possible.  I'll take a look and see.

Skype hasn't been behaving on y 64bit vista system, so I haven't had much time to play with it.

I'll keep you posted.

Not sure about that. I'm using 3.5 myself; haven't tried the new version. Why don't you send me your Skype info and I'll add you as a contact, and then see if I can invite you to the group.

It hasn't been very active as of late that I know of. We did have some initial group work going with installing Eclipse and trying to find a decent online group meetting software package, but no FOSS seemed to fit he bill. We were also waiting for J!Code (plug-in for Ecliplse IDE), which was also delayed. Not sure where that is at this point either.

I keep meaning to see if we can revive things a bit, but my own work has left me little time to do much of what I'd like to be doing. Hopefuly that will change.

In the meantime, get me the info and we'll see what we can do.

Linux: download this file and follow these instructions from ianmac:
I read this wiki message and try "download this file", but the URL open a initial page this forum.
Where is the file that must be downloaded?

Thanks all.

I'm guessing the link didn't make it through the conversion when we moved to phpbb3. Not sure what the link is myself, but I'll see if I can find out.

No scheduled training that I know of as of yet. We had a group working last year, but a few snags with the IDE and finding collabrative software slowed the process.

Perhaps if we can get a group together, we can start from the beginning again and see if we can get something going for some initial training and working through the basics. Get set up with an IDE. Go through some of the tutorials. Etc Etc..

The chat is up and running, and working fine. We've noted some people with particular versions have had trouble connecting directly to the link, but typically and invite does the trick.

I got to thinking this morning about all the things I've been learning this week while trying to create a project, and I realize the MOST difficult thing to learn how to do is the svn part. Including the build.xml and such. I think this probably needs to be the first thing we discuss.

Hey guys, is the skype chat thingy going. Been waiting and waiting, but just tells me the host is offline.
I tried joining from the link in the Wiki.
BTW, that link doesn't work on Vista, try using XP. You'll get a msg telling you that you do not have Skype installed when trying from Vista.

Where is the link in the wiki. I'll take a look.

In the meantime, if you give me your name I'll add it to the list and send you an invite.
