Only happens on PHP5, related to a reference issue between mod_mainmenu and JMenu. Still need to hunt down the actual cause.

I'm experiencing that error, however it is intermittent, but I'm unable to discern why it is not happening on every page. I don't believe it's been fixed in the latest update (I have the update from 1-Sept-2007, but also included other info about my installation in case that is helpful). You can see the error at my web site, http://www.clarinerd.com/

In file modules\mod_mainmenu\helper.php, at line 272, replace

$tmp = $item;

with

$tmp = clone($item);

This will fix it! As Jinx said, it was a reference problem.

Does Joomla 1.5 have a clone function then? cause in PHP4 there is no such function to clone an object like that, only in PHP5

or are you both running PHP5 ?

I am indeed using PHP 5 as being the current supported version of PHP!

The PHP development team supports PHP 4 until the end of this year 2007

Joomla 1.5 is written to be, and is 100% compatible with PHP4

[quote="http://dev.joomla.org/content/view/2013/93/"]
For information, here are the minimum requirements for Joomla 1.5

    * PHP 4.3.x or above  http://www.php.net
    * MySQL 3.23.x or above  http://www.mysql.com
    * Apache 1.13.19 or above  http://www.apache.org

Phil -

I'm fairly certain the developers know the minimums (although Compass's doc is wrong -  try to find that version of Apache.) We are not "live" yet - perhaps there is some "in progress" work underway.
But, I'll bet they would really appreciate someone of your considerable coding ability to submit a few patches.  :-*

Amy :)

Amy

- Well maybe you (with eyes like a hawk) should tell the sites and infrastructure team that they are publishing content without reviewing the factual content - It is posted as the first place new users would look for a system requirement.

Since you dont like me quoting officially published (albeit verbatim published) system requirements from joomla.org take a look at the system requirements from the example content of Joomla 1.5:

The minimum version requirements are:

Quote:
    * Apache 1.x or 2.x
    * PHP 4.3 or up
    * MySQL 3.23 or up

Once again - PHP4 !

I know we are not "live" Silly - I was simply stating the fact (and I did not expect you to understand the technical implication) that the PHP Function "clone" is not in PHP4 only PHP5 and that I wondered if Joomla 1.5 had created a solution like this:
http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2005/03/ ... -for-php4/

If I was not busy having heart attacks maybe I would submit some code - if I only I believed it would actually be taken seriously and integrated into the core code......

Hi Phil,
we are indeed supporting PHP 4.3 and up. And lo and behold, clone() works in PHP 4, since we have a compatibility function for this in the utility package in the framework. :) Our lead devs are really bright guys and thought about this allready. :)

@Jenscski
I commited your proposed fix and it seems to work. At least for me. Marking this report as pending.

Phil -

That's pretty cool that they built in clone() ability. Where else could you find a PHP MVC framework created within the limitations imposed by PHP 4? Phenomenal! Genius, even!

Back to the documentation issue, actually, that's not "official" doc - and there is little the Sites and Infrastructure Team or Documentation Team can do about it. Compass has a restrictive license on his work that prohibits change. "It is licensed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5."

A little off-topic, but, in brief response, I did see your Google alert this morning "Phil Taylor has had a suspected Heart Attack! He is ok!". I am very glad to hear you are okay. My husband did have a heart attack a few years ago and that is not an easy time to go through.

Honestly, though, if I were you, Phil, I'd go ahead and submit patches with my bug reports. I believe your work will be taken seriously. Your skill as a developer is well established and your contributions in the form of code would be very much appreciated!  8)

Amy :)

Well done, Amy. Since I was the one who started the "rumour" about the"unsupported" version PHP, I had my info from another source which I cannot remember now. But I am sure you guys are correct  :)

Actually, that's not totally accurate. My PUBLISHER has that license on it, not me. I definitely feel through the tone of posts that have been made by several people that its being portrayed that I am trying to restrict the flow of documentation.

Nothing is further from the truth, I led the charge to use the CC licenses in 2006. These licenses are a mechanism to spread documentation of Joomla.

Compass -

You provided text for posting. Along with the text, you provided a license. That license restricts updates. Therefore, the Sites and Infrastructure people are unable to do as Phil is instructing - they cannot modify your text, even if the facts in your text are inaccurate, as is the case here. If they did so, they would violate your license.

If those are inaccurate statements, I apologize and urge you to correct misconceptions. Otherwise, I suggest we stick to facts and truth and try not to insinuate "tone."

I remember Larry Lessig leading the charge for CC licensing. Many of us have followed his lead. I use CC 3.0 ATTR but there are many choices.

Amy

You miss my point.

Quote:
You provided text for posting.

Correct, I was happy to provide quality documentation freely available to all and freely available for people to share.

Quote:

No, the publisher did. They chose the one to be used.

As a last point, I have previously given permission to joomla.org to revise the two tutorials on the site as needed. I think was already taken up to correct a broken link and image on the installation tutorial. As I recall this was way back in quarter 1, or even last year.

I apologize for the fact that was failed to be adequately communicated within the joomla.org team.

I also gave blanket permission for any and all translations.

Barrie -

I missed your point? Didn't you post in here to contradict mine? Why this fuss? I stated the license on your work!
Quote:

That's your license. Free of charge? Certainly! Free to change? NoDerivs. No Derivative Works. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

I have made no false claims. Notify off, Barrie.

For others reading this (now that Amy has left), I'll reiterate the point.

That was the license my publisher required me to use to pass the documentation over to joomla.org.

I didn't get to choose it....

Thanks for watching....

I fail to see why this had to be dragged up after nearly 12 months and how bringing attention to it is of any benefit to our community at this time.  Let's holster our weapons and move on.

And to this day I still remember the commit of the clone function I put in a long time ago.

End of story, book closed, lights turned out ... goodnight.

Good fix! I'm testing on PHP5. I added Fireboard and had this issue, only with this component. Using this fix, the problem's gone away.
Thanks!
