Installing BABackup on a locked down iPlanet server

Postby andrewm on Fri Dec 16, 2005 10:59 am

I just thought id bang out from memory the way that i got a component (BABackup1.1) installed, and im sure with some monkeying, the other failing component installs will be fixed in a similar manner.

----
PHP built On:  SunOS eq002pw 5.9 Generic_118558-09 sun4u
Database Version: 3.23.58-log
PHP Version: 4.3.11
Web Server: iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0
WebServer to PHP interface: nsapi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.0.4 Stable [ Sundial ] 21-Nov-2005 10:00 UTC
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Relevant PHP Settings:
Safe Mode: ON
Open basedir: none
Display Errors: OFF
Short Open Tags: ON
File Uploads: ON
Magic Quotes: ON
Register Globals: OFF
Output Buffering: OFF
Session save path: /tmp
Session auto start: 0
XML enabled: Yes
Zlib enabled: Yes
Disabled Functions: exec,passthru,proc_open,system,shell_exec

Now the primary reason i am having these errors is because of the SAFE mode being enabled in PHP. I do not have the permissions, nor the hope in hell of getting it changed either.

The error messages i got at varying stages:
1. ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package
2. Could not copy PHP install file.
3. Failed Could not copy PHP install file.

So in order to defeat these messages

1. Upload the zip file to:
/administrator/components/com_installer/component/babackup

This will combat error message '1'

2. Now run the installer on this zip file, to the uploaded file you just put in /administrator/components/com_installer/component/babackup

3. It will give you error '2'.
Log in via FTP and delete the /component/com_bebackup that has been created

It is at this stage however, our database queries for the menu have been created. Clicking on them will take you to the main page of the admin menu - but we are almost there!

Copy now the contents of the zip file you have locally, via ftp to /administrator/components/com_installer/component/babackup

Make sure you CHMOD the 'backup' directory at least to 777 so you can make backups.

There you go! Too many time at step three, will create multiple entries for the menu - thats ok, delete them from the database!
