Hello, I'm getting this error message " You are not authorized to view this resource. You need to login." for some links in my site even though the content is set to Public.

If the link is given like this:
http://www.mommespace.ca/index.php?opti ... 4&Itemid=0

It will produce the authorization error, however, if the link is given like this:
http://www.mommespace.ca/content/view/14/35/

The content will display to the public.

The problem with this is some times the link is generated like the first form. For example "Email this page" will send the link in the form of that first link. Nonetheless, both links should show public content to the public, anyone know what the problem could be?

Hi,

As far as I can see right now, it has to do with a small bug related to the "Itemid=xx" in the url's. Your site should be okay with SEF enabled or disabled. The bug appears to show when you use that "email a friend" feature.

For some reason the correct url ought to be http://www.mommespace.ca/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=35 but that last part, the Itemid=35 is being replaced giving you an url like http://www.mommespace.ca/index.php?opti ... 4&Itemid=0.

I can not tell you what the status if of this bug. The sites are being setup as we speak, and the bug tracker will be part of this. On the old mamboforge.net you might find this bug but without support anymore fomr the dev team here.

What you also could do is search the forums, see if people posted there own fix related to this problem/bug. I will point the developers to this as well. Hopefully it wil be solved soon.

By the way, very nice layout/design !!

Make sure you don't need anything in your trash bin and then flush the whole thing. Sometimes an $Itemid that may have been deleted or replaced gets hung up in the trash. It would'nt hurt to do a global checkin, too. Let us know if that works.

I have a new mambo installation and if I login and select the option to submit weblink, the form appears to submit a weblink, but if I select the menu option to submit news, I get the message 'You are not authorized to view this resource'.

I thought there was an option somewhere to allow or prevent users to submit news items.  Am I imagining this?  Is there some other reason why this function may not be working?

Thanks!

Stacey

Hi Stacey,

To what usergroup (author, editor or publisher) does the user belong to that you are trying to use the Submit News with?
Registered users can not use it, they need to be at least Author.

It turns out that this website is also using Hot Property and the registration.php program is modified to automatically set a new user to 'agent', which allows them to submit property listings, but they cannot submit news.  If I change the user from 'agent' to 'publisher', they can submit news but cannot submit property listings.  So it creates a new problem for me, but solves the original issue.

Thanks!

I've tried everything but no go.
My problem:
My website is mainly for registered users.
But you have to login twice to view the page!!!
After that you can log in as many times as you want.
But if you close your browser and want to login again you have to it twice again.
Finally I've tried CB login, but it's the same problem…

My website:

PW: hemli

Hi LadyBug,

You might be experiencing a known issue. There is a proposed fix here; http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,106665.0.html

See if that solves your problem.

Hi

I am experiencing this problem as well with read more... on front page of news items.  I have read all the different causes and discussions and followed the advice.  I know that my problem is the wrong itemid.  It views itemid=70, but should be itemid=102.

1)  I have linked the content items to a menu, did not help.
2)  SEF is enabled.
3)  I have cleared cache and trash - did not help.
4)  I have checked the creation and publish dates and made sure they are fine with my server time

Is there anything else I can try to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Thanks for the response.  I am using the SEF that comes with Joomla (mossef.php).

I can report categorically that OpenSEF was the source of the same "not authorized" problem on a new installation of 1.0.12. Odd, as I use OpenSEF  without problem on a couple other 1.0.12 sites without issue. The only difference is that the problem site is a Japanese language site. For the time being I've disabled OpenSEF though I think it's [otherwise] a rockin' good component.

Hi, I'm a new Joomla user.  This answer told me a lot.  I was going nuts trying to figure out why I couldn't submit news as a registered user, but I could submit links. lol.  I've got everything set to public, and did much tweaking up until I found your post here.  I wanted to know if there is a way to let a registered user automatically become an author status at a certain point or even instantly?
Thank you for your time.

Yes I am having big problems with Open SEF - but I think the real problem is that links are being created which are inconsistent for the same page

For one of my articles Open-SEF has "kindly" made me 6 different entries with different "real" URLs

OpenSEF may possibly be used to partially solve the problem - if you just leave only one "Friendly URL" entry published for each set of Friendly URLs then at least only that one known good real URL gets used. DONT delete bad ones - they will just get re-made and the problem will recur...

If I could wok out the outgoing/incoming - so all of the "real" urls (including the bad ones) get re-written to the one friendly URL - then that gets re-written to the one good real URL - then Open SEF could actually fix problems with mal-formed URLs.

I suspect that the buggy entries should be set to
