i have been using mambo and joomla for a long time.

Problem: 60% of the time i try to log in the frontend i get just a refresh of the website, and if i get a successful login, i lose the session when i go inside (like browsing the blog or submiting a new content). but the session is loged inside the session table.. and i see that many users with the same login in the backend administration.

this problem does not occur when i test the same built with my local server. but when uploadig the site on my shared hosting it happens.

i have searched for this problem and i saw that many users has the same problem but with no solution.

in my experience this is due to a cookie issue of some kind.

  • users who access through a proxy like AOL users often experience this kind of problem
  • if the date / time on your local pc is inaccurate, the cookie can be expired the moment it is set
  • cookies just not enabled

to solve the first, you can login to AOL as usual then reduce the AOL browser and open another browser I.E. or firefox etc

The latest version of joomla changes the session handling and in the global config there are options to help with session handling through proxies.

Hello,

I have the same problem where the site refreshes but does not log me in; however, I haven't been able to login successfully at all from the frontend.  I'm on Joomla 1.0.8 and I've made those redirect fixes already.

Here is a URL to test the login function.  You can use test & test as the login.

Thanks for the help!
Jen :)

Ditto - I have the same problem as well.

What is the redirect problem!?

I believe I am having the "redirect" problem - and only IE users are affected.  My site is at http://www.seizeyourlife.com/blog but I'm positive that the majority of my users enter http://www.seizeyourlife.com which then redirects them to the correct url.  Do you think this could be causing the problem?  My livesite url is set to: "www.seizeyourlife.com/blog".  Users report the login screen refreshing but never changing the the registered menu - i.e. it looks as if they never even tried to login.

The worst part is, I have mostly corporate users who cannot change their cookie settings.  Any ideas on what I can/should do?

I am running 1.0.8 on a shared host.

Hello everyone,

Is there anyone out there who wasn't able to login through the frontend, but found a solution?

This is so weird... Joomla1.0.8

1. okay...so you've used mambo for a long time...how long have you been using 1.0.8?

2. if you're using OpenSEF or Xaneon Extensions, you should disable canonical urls.

Hello,

I am still in the process of creating this site, and the Joomla 1.0.8 is a fresh install.  This isn't the re-direct issue either; I can't login at all from the frontend.  ???

Thanks for any help!
Jen :)

This should not be an issue...

EDIT: I just noticed that you post is 4 days old. Is this still an issue?

I checked my cookies, and I see a mosvisitor cookie set, content=1, host=www.nextnc.com, path=/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,101/, send for= any type of connection, expires= at end of section.

Does this sound like the right info?  When I try to login I get re-directed to the homepage, but I'm still not logged in.
You can try it here: http://www.nextnc.com/component/option, ... temid,101/ username and password are test and test.

It seems like something is happening when I login...

Thanks,
Jen :)

It's the default login for 1.0.8.  I just removed the breaks between the titles and input fields, and did the redirect/username fix.  The login was not working prior to these changes either.

Thanks!
Jen :)

your 'login' button isn't attempting to log anyone in. it's simply a hyperlink.

i would recommend you download a fresh login mod and start over with it. something got messed up when you were editing the code it looks like.

I never edited the login button.  Here is the code for it:

Do you think I could download the login module verision for 1.0.7?  That one seems to be less buggy.  Is there a place I could do this?

Thanks,
Jen :)

jstarley, I just managed to login to the front end of your site by using the login component

e.g.  index.php?option=com_login&Itemid=999999

it did still redirect me to the top level page though

but it shows me as logged in, which is progress ?

I took a look at the page source again, and I think I see the problem now.  For some reason, nothing is output in the form action; it just says

In the actual file, here is the code:

Is this correct, or shouldn't some reference to com_login be here?

Thanks,
Jen :)

I've tried installing the community builder module now, and I am having the same issue with the form action url.  I think this might have something to do with the settings in my htaccess file.

Can someone explain what this function does exactly and how it works?

Thanks,
Jen :)
