I am an excellent proofreader and would be more than happy to assist. I speak both tech and english and can easily translate the two. :)

For either the Administrator Manual or the Developer's Manual:

1. Actively contributing on a regular basis towards writing, editing, and proof-reading (How many hours/week? -with a 3 hour/week commitment)

I am available for proofreading.

Other Questions:
1. Do you have any special skills and experience that may be of particular interest to the Doc Team?

I have little experience with the tool currently. I am just beginning to pick it up. However, I spent too many years in the tech world deciphering poorly written manuals. I have also produced any number of documents for projects that I have worked on, mostly internal.

I have a high degree of fluency in my native language and CAN produce a note from my mother (bless her evil little heart) on short notice. ;)

2. What is your time zone?

EST

3. Is English your first language?

Yes.

Please let me know how I can be of service to the project.

Take care.

Hi Michelle,

Having been a lurker in 'the other place' for a short while - picking up snippets of info and learning from scratch myself, I had just started to help others (post count somewhere around 150) when the current developments interjected.

I think that times like these make people realise the value of community and that it doesn't just happen - people have to step forward and play their part.  With that in mind I would like to offer assistance with the documentation project:

Administrator Manual: Actively - I can easily give 4 or 5 hours per week, probably more.

Developers Manual: Occassionally - I am interested in dabbling a little with third party Components, Modules and Mambots and as a PHP newbie and a fairly recent newcommer to Mambo (or the project formerly known as Mambo) I will be coming at this from the same angle as much of the target audience.

Special skills - nothing special really, some development work, though not much PHP. Helping people with computers and the internet is what I do. Oh and I help a bloke called MrRat who develops 'Amazon Products Feed' an Open Source script that puts a customisable online store on a website.  I am particularly active in his  support forums, where I am a moderator.

Time Zone - GMT - UK
English first language? Indeed it is!
Translating: Sorry, English only I am afraid, and at times ashamed.

Timezone is CST English is my second language although I speak it as well as a native speaker.

For the Administrator Manual:
2. Occasionally contributing towards writing, editing, and proof-reading (only when you have time - no commitment to the project)
I'm going with whats behind door number 2 for now because I'm not quite sure how much time I'll be able to contribute, and its better to under promise and over deliver.

Other Questions:
1. Do you have any special skills and experience that may be of particular interest to the Doc Team?
I started an in house wiki at my old job as tech support at local ISP that is still in use there... Um I'm working on http://www.primakoala.com as an exMambo portal.
2. What is your time zone?
PST
3. Is English your first language?
Yes.

I wish to ask that everyone who wishes to volunteer to post in this thread instead of sending me pm.  My box is overflowing and it is easier to reply to threads.

Thank you in advance!!!

For the Administrator Manual:

2. Occasionally contributing towards writing, editing, and proof-reading (only when you have time - no commitment to the project)
NB. There is great commitment but limited time.

Other Questions:
1. Do you have any special skills and experience that may be of particular interest to the Doc Team?

I have written user manuals for Bridgestone/Firestone (Japan) and for Wurth (Germany).  These were written in English and contracted by the corporations head offices for use in their offices around the world.  As my work had to be later translated into many different languages, the style of instruction was neccessarily clear and simple.
I did a two-week assignment as a proof-reader for Oxford University Press.  (I was working as their relief accountant and was silly enough to show an interest in some books they were editing, so extended my contract for a fortnight to help them out. It was fun for two weeks, though not enough fun to make me want to change career paths!)

2. What is your time zone?

GMT +12

3. Is English your first language?

Yes.

Note: There are times when I will be able to be very active and others when I just cannot help at all.  I have a large number of commitments in my life and, for my sins, am a city councillor.  This means I have no control over the amount of time I have to give to meetings, which are often called at short notice, and my business and personal life have to follow in that order.  I will do what I can, when I can, but unfortunately cannot commit to any definite hours.

It's kind of a stretch to consider it a skill, but I have almost no experience in PHP, SQL, xml, css, or the other coding and technical aspects that comprise mambo, but doesn't that make me quite qualified to "test drive" documentation for understandability and usability?

I'm willing to give it a shot.

English is my native language and my skills are reasonable.  My professional writing experience comes from authoring scientific journal articles which has honed my ability to recognize and ensure completeness, accuracy, and precision.

Hi there,

I am available to write, edit or even proof read the help/manual materials.  My area of intererest would be the Administrator side of things.  I'd like to actively contribute on a regular basis, however at the moment it would be only a few hours per week (but you never know).

As far as special skills or experience go ....
  • About 6 years ago I was writing software reviews and feature articles for Australian "Desktop" magazine ... the magazine of choice for graphic design / DTP people.
  • Top tier beta tester for the last four versions of Corel Draw.  Got my name in the credits and all.
  • University trained in the education field as a secondary teacher (science, specialising in biology).  Second teaching area was Film and Media.
  • Background with lots of experience in radio as an announcer.
  • I also speak Australian.    ;D

Time zone ....  Brisbane, Australia.  GMT + 10:00.  (think of it as being the same zone as Robert Castley)

English is in fact my first language.

That's about all I can think of at short notice.  All the best to you all.

Andrew Smith
Brisbane, Australia.

1. Do you have any special skills and experience that may be of particular interest to the Doc Team?

Thirty-five years in journalism; former assistant managing editor of a Major Metropolitan Daily Newspaper (no, not the Daily Planet). While at the newspaper, wrote two computer-user manuals. Today I write and edit two professional newsletters, one focusing on computer technology. Know enough PHP to be dangerous.

2. What is your time zone?

US PDT (GMT +8)

3. Is English your first language?

First and only.

4. Are you interested in translating the documentation to another language, if yes , which language. Please contact infograf768 http://forum.opensourcematters.org/inde ... ofile;u=14

See above.

Either Admin or User manuals OK for me; I can line-edit or proof.

Time? Well, let's just say that it's not on my side, no it isn't. But feel free to pitch me a job and if I can't do it, I'll throw it back quickly.

Other Questions:
1. Do you have any special skills and experience that may be of particular interest to the Doc Team?

I am a developer of web applications in ASP/Access and PHP/MySQL for a web design company. I have written informal documentation for my own applications, but have no experience with a formalized process.  I am very interested in helping out on this project where ever you feel you could use me.

2. What is your time zone?

GMT -7:00 (Mountain Time - U.S & Canada)

3. Is English your first language?

First and pretty much only.  I could probably order something at a restaurant in German if I had to. ;)

Hi Michelle

I was thinking of offering my help at ‘the other place’ but I’m pretty pressed for time. However, I would really like to see this pan out as I have no desire to start with a new CMS somewhere else. So …

I’m not a programmer, though I can hack my way through most PHP/HTML it when I really have to.

1. Actively contributing on a regular basis towards writing, editing, and proof-reading (How many hours/week? -with a 3 hour/week commitment)

I’m willing to put a few hours a week into this. Let’s say a 3 hour/week commitment.

1. Do you have any special skills and experience that may be of particular interest to the Doc Team?

As I said, I’m not a programmer, but I’m a professional IT journalist and have been writing about IT for 15 or so years. I did one user manual about 10 years ago, but I wouldn’t say I’m a technical writer. I’m a journalist.

2. What is your time zone?
Queensland Australia. So I’ll be an hour off daylight saving time. That makes me GMT +10 all the time.

3. Is English your first language?
English is my only language, but I'm pretty good at it.  ;)

Andrew, dmcole, zenriot  & howdwegethere,

Thank you for your offers!

We are still restructuring things with the project with this recent move here to opensourcematters site.  So I ask  that you are patient.

What needs to be done is editing/proof-reading "Help Screens" for the next version 4.5.3.  I have started to publish some of the text in this forum.

Anything with a "To Do.." subject line needs to edited and proof-read.  Since we don't have a demo for the next version, I know that you are unable to verify the text with 4.5.3.

You can still start editng and proof-reading the text.  Just post your work in Green text.  Check the guidelines thread for editing.  They are only basic guidelines....

If you have any questions, please post them in another thread.

I usually try to respond in the later evenings  (- 6 GMT) since I work.

Thank you for your support!!!
