Does anybody know if there is a search module available for joomla that allows us to have live search similar to:

http://www.joshuaink.com

The live search is on the right of the page.

Thanks,

I suspect you're looking for an ajax search box. I remember seeing something about this, search (sic) for ajax search in this forum.

Here is one.
http://designformambo.com/index.php?opt ... einfo&id=3

Even the paid version lacks the ease of use of something like this (one can simply type the word and then use the arrow keys to move to search results):

I like the second one, I think the one and only available module for joomla is not quite up to scratch, compared to my example and your second link. Maybe it can be modified.

Thanks

In fact the sedond link is a plug-in for Wordpress... perhaps somebody could modify it for Joomla.

I've managed to dig out the source, it's Apache License, Version 2.0, which is nice. Let me see what I can do with it.

Ok chaps, give this a try: http://www.jomres.net/index.php?option= ... &Itemid=79

I've taken the liberty of renaming it Shep, after one of my all-time favourite TV stars: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/classic/bluep ... shep.shtml

If memory serves me correctly he was pretty good at fetching things.

I've installed it at jomres.net, It seems to work pretty well.

I tested it on your site but it seems not to advance with the down arrow below the first find (I used mozilla and firefox). It appears to work OK for IE.

Hmm. I was testing the ability to add the first couple of lines of text under the link, but it seems that the text stops you from being able to move the "cursor". Rather than remove the lines, give me a few minutes to see if I can change that to something that looks like text but is in fact a hyperlink. That might cure it.

Ok, I've fixed the module & uploaded it to jomres.net. Use the link above to download it, any problems let me know here.

Cheers.

Well done! It seems to work OK now in mozilla /firefox.

However, in IE the search results appear offset to the right of the search box, whereas in mozilla /firefox directly below it. I guess this must be some css entry in your template messing with it.

Not my template, I got that elsewhere, I suck at css. If somebody wants to take a look at it I'll gladly include any improvements.

I did have one of the book's pencil drawings of him as an avatar on another group for a while. I like Nightwatch, I think it's his last best book. I get the feeling he's struggled a bit since Truth tho.

Hi,
what a great module. Thank you!

I'm experiencing some problems using it though. Installed it correctly and added the "onloadinit" in the body tag of my index file.
When I type in any word or letter, the box appears correctly, but inside it shows the following message:

"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

Am I missing something? I didn't install anything else (Ajax software or..?)

SOLVED.
After a whole afternoon searching through the code, we discovered that the module was working fine and there was something wrong with my livesearch.php file itself:
it was sufficient to copy and paste the exact content of the livesearch.php file into a brand new "livesearch.php" file and replace it to solve the problem.

After a whole afternoon thinking about the strangest causes for the problem, the solution was lying in a copy&paste...so gratifying!

Thank you very much Vimes for all your help through this, and for this great module :)

Hmmm
I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try:

There's a file in the install called livesearch.php, it's the file that's called by the module when it initiates the search. Right at the bottom of the file it says this:

Code:
?>
<div class="LSRes">

Try putting
Code:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Windows-1255" />

after the

Code:
?>

Let me know how you get on.

Thank you for your helping.

I did what you said, but nothing change.

Now, the end of livesearch.php look like this:
Code:
?>
<div class="LSRes"><?php if ( $searchResult) { for ($i=0;$i<count($searchResult);$i++) { ?><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Windows-1255" />
<div class="LSRow"><a href="<?php echo $searchResult[$i]->href ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Link: <?php echo $searchResult[$i]->title; ?>"><?php echo $searchResult[$i]->title; ?></a>
</div><?php } } else { ?>No Results<?php } ?>
<div>

:'(

You'll have to remember, I'm shooting in the dark a bit here.

Take out the bit that I told you to put in. Instead, at the top of the file it says something like...

require_once( $abspath.'/includes/joomla.php' );

Directly after that line, try this:

header("Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8");

I've been digging around on the web and found a few discussions on this subject so there's a few things we can try. It would appear that ajax only uses utf-8 (not a bad thing, probably), so we need to experiement and see what works for you.

This particular change I gleaned from http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=227
We might also want to look at this one, if the above suggestion doesn't work: http://www.taylanpince.com/blog/AJAX-an ... pport.html

I am very appreciate it.

O.k,  some good news !

I add this line (as you told me, but not with utf-8) : header("Content-type: text/html; charset=windows-1255");

This give me most of the time Hebrew result.

I will check later (because i have a class now...at the university) why it is not give me hebrew result all time.

Thank's alot for now !
