Request for help - Topic icons needed...

Post by rhuk » Thu Sep 08, 2005 7:39 pm

Here's a request of my own.  I would LOVE someone to create a very nice clean/clear set of topic icons to replace the stock ones.  If you would like to help out and contribute to this effort, please draw a samlple of your proposal and paste them in this thread.

Cheers!

Sure, can be released as opensource or back to SMF community or whatever.  It's just the SMF template we want to keep unique.

Yes, the more contrast the better!

Would you like to see different icons altogether for each instead of contrasting colors?

Ok.  Updated for better contrast and added a couple more examples.

Ideas or criticism welcome.

They are very similar still though.

When Design Outpost went through its first 'loook', they had a great little forum icons. When a new message was poster or replied to it had a little signpost (outpost ;)) with New on it. For Hot topics they had other things completely.

I think this is the type of way to go, not just different colours but very diffrent icons.
Maybe something with new on it for new,
a flame for hot
a chilli for very hot

That sort of thing, so they are not just an icon of a page with a background colour but complete difference for each level so its a lot clearer when you look at it.

Ive seen sites that use no icons except for New topics which I think works well, because it doesnt detract and you can easily see new icons.

Just some thoughts :)

No one else going to try their hand at this?  I know it's not as glamorous as creating a new logo but still thousands of people will look at them every day.

I wish I could but I can't  :'(

I'm with hotnuts21 on this .. we need something more than the same old same old icons.

rhuk .. spot on the icons here are as important as the logo. it's something we interact with every day. If I was a designer would I love to hang my hat on teh idea that I designed the icons on the Joomla forum.

May be I opened my mouth and proved my ignorance about design  :-[

Thanks for all your hardwork guys.  I went with the 'current' set that you now see on the forums.  I think these balance a clearer design with a nice consistent look. Thanks to Dave who sent them in.
