I like the first logo, WOW - another variation of your but this is GREAT, original, faviconable, efficient, elegant. I like it - this logo is ok for the contest - you need only more comments about your good well done work...

The idea of having an semi abstract object that could be used for a new community (from an existing one)
that grows and looks forward was were most of the inspiration came from. I liked the idea of not using real, tangible objects.The body is based on a blue globe. The exclamations dot lends to being an eye (vision, looking forward). The font I keep realy formal (Century) to give it also corporate image. It an be used as a favicon.

I hope that makes sense, and not over complicated it with my exclamation.

At first I was like wth is this (first one). Then I saw the thing about the eye

Anyways, even if people don't "get" the image, what they will get is a lasting impression. You have created a unique identity, nice work.

explanation is great! very sleek and professional design, though if I'm flippant for a second I can also see a Pacman eating the remains of a mambo flower

Might as well be pacman with an orange zorro mask.

But beside this. I really, really like the logo. High quality work. Unique. Fascinating. Recognisable at once.

I like the one without the star better.

Is this a svg-object? Or a path object? Or "just" bitmap?
Wish I could do such things. Did u ever think of doing a tutorial on this?

The one with the star, looking to cover the whole world, is like Joomla the rising star in the CMS landscape, looking to conquer the whole globe. Brilliant and sleek.

Hi All

Thank you all for your very kind comments.

The logo was done with Photoshop 7.
Its all done with vector tools bar the highlights and shadow.

The tutorial url is bang on how I did it.

Yeah, how about adding some text to the star logo thing. I think it fits perfectly with the foood icon set that joomla already uses too

Maybe you should leave the star on the exclamation sign. It's overkill and make it look to much like a circus, clown, etc...

I don't think the colors are weak... they're very friendly and fresh. But it's just a matter of taste offcourse.
