Dear friends,

Is it possible to check out joomla from CVS or SVN?
If you are starting a new project, SVN is better.

Kind regards,
Jean-Michel

SVN is the way to go certainly.  Access will be available as soon as our new Forge site is commissioned (or soon thereafter).  It's currently slated to be available this week.

We are already using SVN for our development work on 1.0 and 1.1

As far as I am aware the new forge will allow project maintainers to select whether they wish to use CVS or SVN for their project.
However Joomla! will be using SVN.

Hehe.. Just to damn exited to see something done and branded with joomla.

Hi AnyTime

The 'fuzzy' answer is yes...I just don't know what the setup will look like.  I have a nebulous idea for a developers 'club' (no fees, hehe) but it's needs some more thought.  Not sure that club is the right word either.

Maybe a SVN access with submissions "to be reviewed by core team before comitment" would save you time getting submitted files in sync...The way Linux has been developed, where core-team spent most time reviewing&rejecting ;) submissions to keep only the best ones into core.

Interesting idea.  I probably favour a 'working group' model.  We might have some long term WG's for things like database portability, etc (good thread that other one) and maybe some short term WG's that might be just tasked to build a component or research and solve an issue.

While there wil lbe a (hopefully) fairly stable core team of people that provide continuity and stability for the project, I think a more organic outer skin/structure would be good to be able to harness a lot of the creative talent that is out there.

That said, a 'code submissions' mechanism is not a bad approach.

I completely understand the working group model and applaud anything that the core team would allow us service/consultants out here a way to help back but in a more professional manner.

That being said, we have a talented dev team and we only focus on OS software for our customer base (Unless their IDIOTS USING MS!) I'm joking if any of our customers see that!  :P

Long story short, We are a service and support company that believes in giving back. We would love to help with the ACL issues and help create a software that is useable for the masses.

Currenlty the types of ws we have worked on with Mambo
  • Real Estate
  • Doctors
  • Lawyers
  • Chamber of Commerces
  • Adult Matching

All of these sites require many of the same functionalities and hence why we love JOOMLA!

There is no need to create a complete forge right now.
Just install a fresh GNU/Linux computer and install SVN with open-ssh server.

Kind regards,
Jean-Michel

There is a lot of need for both a forge and proper bug-tracking. Please be patient.

OK, I am up my own SVN server in order to start PostgreSQL migration.

In a project, there is no need to go for complicated things first.
Just set up a SVN server, which will allow us to start working.
Then you have full time to play with toys and advanced forges.

This is like life : you need to eat. When correctly fed, you can build skycrapers.

Here, we need SVN to be able to write code. Other issues are secondary.
Just my 2 cents.

Kind regards,
Jean-Michel

The "forge" is already installed and working.
Created "Use TortoiseSVN to Check-out Joomla 1.0.x" tutorial screenshots today.

What a HUGE improvement over MF.
They have really done it well.

The Forge will be announced fromally in due course.

However although operational (and we are using it to complete work for 1.0) it is not quite ready for prime time opertaion, so a little more patience is needed.

I tried to connect and make a fresh checkout:

svn co svn+ssh://jmpoure@svn_forge_url/svnroot/joomla/trunk/

Which resulted in the following message:
"svn: Connection closed unexpectedly"

My SSH public keys are installed.
Any idea why I cannot checkout from SVN?

Kind regards,
Jean-Michel

Still impossible to checkout.
I am not asking for membership, I only need to checkout from SVN in order to submit patches.

Wonderful idea! Has the tutorial been published? Looking forward to it. So far unable to get a response from svn://scm.joomla.org/svnroot/joomla using toritoise svn.

I have a few questions about smc.joomla.org

1. I have SVN Tortoise and stander  CVS Tortoise installed.
I enter http://scm.joomla.org in the URL field then I get a error
// * PROFIND request failed. 302 //

It wont list the projects or a project /joomla.

2. I’d like to upload a few projects soon I tested the upload form it works.
But it was only a 2MB file I have files that will be a lot larger then that say 75MB.
Will the new Forge support this size file or do I have to host them.

Last question  to upload to my smc joomlalabs / source files
what would I have to do?

For does that need the software on a windows box:

Tortoise SVN:
http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/

Tortoise CVS:
http://www.tortoisecvs.org/

Putty:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgta ... nload.html

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

In TortoiseSVN, for "URL of repository:" use:

1.0 branch
http://scm.joomla.org/svn/repos/joomla/branches/1.0/

Cool I’m in.
Note: it case sensitive user name and password.
So if you have a username:  like JOOMla  and you type the username: JOOMLA it wont work.

Thanks Again

Does this mean you're working on porting Joomla or are you going to work at ABSTRACTING the database and SQL so Joomla can be used on multiple backends?

Great, thanks to Ken !
With this info i've been able to install TortoiseSVN and succesfully accessed Joomla 1.0 SVN.

Is this info available somewhere on FAQ forum? Or maybe even on the joomla.org site?
