Hi,

I'm looking to add links for key words in my contents e.g. UBUNTU, Joomla. Basically, I want to have someone klick a word in the text and that would launch another window -- the site that I point them at.

How do I add links?

are you talking about automatically doing this or manually?

nathandiehl,

I would like to link to things like UBUNTU, Joomla as shown on my Homepage. You can cee thr Bold words on my site @ http://www.jjmacet.net. From there the visitor would then go to another site.

I'm not sure what you mean with your question, but I think this would be manual after I edit something.

You can manually link the word using the link feature in your WYSIWYG editor.

To automate it you can use a Glossary type of extension that would automatically link any word on your site if its definition is in the Glossary component.

Hi All,

And, thanks for the replys -- this has got to be so simple that it makes me look stupid. LOL!. I have searched this Forum and have read everything that I could "Google".

No matter what I've tried using the Admin function of either my hosted or Workstation set-up I get this --

Image

I've been able to develop my site further, and have been having fun doing it, but need to Hyperlink so that I can fill in the content and then move further along.

Have I broken something according to the screenshot, or should I be looking for some different HTML editor besides the default version in Joomla?

Hi Dave,

I've been chasing this in other Forums and with my Host. There seems to be something buggy here that I just can't work around. Do things with my site I can, but this is breaking my heart! LOL!

This is just plain puzzling.

Solved --

There is a well known bug / script error that my hosting service SiteGround solved for me. I now can edit / insert Hyperlinks / URLs to my Content.

I've read all the posts here, Googled, and from the very beginning thought there was something wrong here. Inserting a Link should have been much, much simpler using the WYSIWYG editors available.

Guys / Gals -- thanks for the replies.

It's the www versus non-www livesite problem. For many applications that use javascript popup windows you need to ensure that you log into the site from the exact address given in the livesite in your site configuration. IF the live site has www you must use www. If the live site does not have www you must not use it.

This can be addressed by using a redirect and forcing the page to the proper url. It can also be fixed by modifying a core file.

norman,

This is what I was told --

Quote:
I have found the reason for the issue. It is a known bug in the Joomla/Mambo script. I solved it by editing the configuration.php file and changing the following line:

$mosConfig_live_site = 'http://jjmacey.net';

with

$mosConfig_live_site = 'http://www.jjmacey.net';

Now you can use WYIWYG editor without a problem.

Also, this from tech support @ my host --

Quote:
Yes, this is a well known bug in the Mambo/Joomla applications.

We have contacted the developers multiple times about it but without any results.

Hopefully, it will be fixed in the new versions.

I hope this helps.

I believe that making this change to your configuration file will fix it:

$mosConfig_live_site = 'http://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'];

If you have joomla in a subdirectory,

$mosConfig_live_site = 'http://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . '/dir';

change dir to the name of your directory.
