On any machine I try to install Joomla 1.0.11 on it fails by displaying "Restricted access"

It seems that the string

Code:
// no direct access
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );

Needs to be taken out of version.php to resolve this issue. Please update the files for others.

Hi Steven,

I've only done a few installs, but had no problems so far. You actually removed that line and it solved your problem?

I DO CONFIRM on certain hosts!

Thanks for the tip.

Testing now, but I guess that, after install, the line could be added.

I'll be back on this.
May be added to Robink's list

Quote:
PHP built On:  Windows NT SS6 5.0 build 2195
Database Version: 4.1.12a-nt
PHP Version: 5.0.4
Web Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0
WebServer to PHP interface: cgi-fcgi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.0.11 RC [ Sunburst ] 25 August 2006 20:00 UTC
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6

I have tested with the following configurations:

Quote:
PHP built On:  Windows NT EBDG 5.2 build 3790
Database Version: 4.1.18-nt
PHP Version: 4.4.0
Web Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
WebServer to PHP interface: isapi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.0.11 - Accessible Stable [ Sunbow ] 28 August 2006 20:00 UTC
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6

And my linux server which I have not upgrade yet and forgot to grab the information from it.

This only effects the installation....nothing else.

Hi Lebisol,

Only that it has been confirmed by a few users. Will be reviewing and changing status soon. Once deifinitly confirmed, I'll add an official bug report and Dev's will have to take it from there.

Hi RobInk,
Thanks for the update!
This is really odd...my test server is causing this error (win/apache/php - if specifics will help on config please let me know) while the production server I had no problems with 4-5 installs. :-\
Please keep us posted.
Thanks again for the work!
All the best!

Attempted an install of Joomla_1.0.10_eCommerceEdition_VM1.0.6  with same issue and your solution worked.  I have several other working setups of Joomla, even one that was once a Mambo site, and this is the first time I have had this issue.  Must be because it was not an upgrade.  So here is one more instance folks. :-*

I can not confirm such a problem when doing a new installation of Joomla! using an export of SVN as of yesterday (~07:00 UTC) while running Apache 2.2.3, PHP5.1.5 (cgi) and mySQL on platform OS/2. At this server register_globals is off in php.ini.

Hello everyone,
I just ran a 1.0.10 install...without any problems this time...patch to .11 went smooth as well.
Perhaps it was apache account on nt that locked up the serverice...no clue but it worked without any need to edit version.php file:
flush/delete the whole root of site...
rebooted and installed 1.0.10 version
patched up to 1.0.11

again, I had the luxury of clean install as it was dev machine.
Thank you all  for keeping an eye on this thread,
All the best!

@lebisol and diri

This is issue is just for a new install of Joomla! 1.0.11 and not for previous versions or SVN at the moment.

Hi Steven,

I just did some testing on this issue and sofar I'm unable to confirm it. Can you provide more info on the webservers where the issue occurs? And do you get the Resticted access before of after install?

Rob,

This mainly happens on windows servers.

Configurations of the servers that I have had issues on:

Windows 2003 - IIS 6
Windows XP - Apache 2.x
RedHat - Apache 2.x

All had PHP 4 - the latest version.

When you went to the main link (example: http://www.example.com) it would take you to the install. The installer would only display Restricted Link. This is due to the the VALID_MOS was put into the version.php file.

I dont know how to replicate it other then it happens on my machines and I know im not the only one that has experienced it.

Thanks for the feedback Steven. I'll do some testing on a similar setup and see if I can confirm this. I was using a different php version before.

Steven, others,

If you are experiencing this problem, please do me a favor to give us a starting point to diagnosing the bug.

Open up includes/version.php and change:

Code:
// no direct access
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );

to:

Code:
// no direct access
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( print_r( debug_backtrace() ) );

Then try to start the installer again and it should error out with a bit of text... paste that text back here.

Thanks
