is there a component or module in the works that allows you to assign more than one section or category to a content item?

here's what i hope to accomplish. suppose i have sections based on country, e.g. philippines and themes, e.g. tourism. i would like to put a content item in its appropriate country and theme section so that i can display that content in both sections.

i'm aware that you can easily copy a content to another section, but i wish this could be done in the content item editor. like allowing to choose more than one section or category from the section and category drop-down menus.

i think this can also be possibly accomplished by having a custom module that pulls records based on additional keywords assigned to the content. by default, the meta info only includes section, category and title. the same solution can also be useful to pull and display contents based on a particular author, if author info is added as one of the keywords.

thanks for any help.

are you talking about "related items" module? while if the related items module are only showing titles,.. you want to pass the whole contnet of the related item next to your main content?

looks like fairly easy to have that hacked.

tell me how badly you needed it.. IF I HAVE the time.. i'll hack it for you. ;)

sorry if i wasnt clear enough.

right now, you can only assign one section and category to a content item (in content editor) and you display (blog, link, etc.) based on their assigned section or category (when you create a menu item).

i want to be able to assign more than one section and category to a content item (in the content editor) so that i can display the same article in a blog or link page i create for those sections or categories.

for example, i have sections "philippines" and "tourism" among others. i would like to assign both sections (in content editor) to a content item. so that the same article will appear when i create menu items based on each section "philippines", and "tourism".

right now, the workaround for this is to copy the article  (in content items manager) over to other sections, creating duplicate copy. this approach will produce unnecessary double records of the same content item.

having the ability to assign more than one section or category to a content item adds more flexibility to joomla and will be a practical feature to websites by research orgs or even media where contents are largely classifed based on subjects more than types (news, feature, report, etc.). its quite normal for contents from such groups to have multiple subjects and the ability to display a content item based on each subject (section or category in joomla terms) that it pertains to will be very useful.

will try to post this in the non-profit forum too. some people might be working on this too. salamat.

I'm interested in this hack as well.

My Local News updates by itself but sometimes I want the news i like displayed a little longer, so i yesterday, created another category called "A second Look." See here: http://www.dinagyang.com. For now, I have to switch the article to category "A second Look" and switch it back to "Local News" after a few days.

Sorry to revoke this old thread, but I couldn't find a solution to this, and like all the people above, I too badly need this feature. Since this is a three year old thread, I am hoping the somebody must have found or managed a hack, and would be willing to share. Thanks
