Just a reminder: These codes are for the operating systems. Please do not confuse them with the language package identifier code that Joomla is using. (They are very similar)
The proposed methodology:
In this thread we should try and get as many Operating Specific lists of locale codes that each particular operating system recognises.
i.e List 1 for Windows, List 2 for Mac, List 3 for Debian, List 4 for openBSD ...
There is a way to compile such a list:= in the console enter 'locale -a' and the valid list for the machine is output. Among all the translators in this forum we should be able to get a good number of lists for unique OS's.
Once we have a decent collection of OS lists - each translation team can pick out the language_country specific codes from each list and compile a suitable comma delimited list for that language. This way the lists will 'cover' most host operating system These too can be posted here. Later to be on a sticky thread in the main language forum and hopefully in the docs.
example list at end of process for Hebrew
'he_IL.utf-8, heb_IL.utf-8, hebrew'
(the first for Redhat, the second for OS xyz, the third for Windows)
NOTE: the utf-8 encoding extension should be included where valid and should be FIRST in the list of the locales
Example:
French (Fr)
fr-FR
0
fr_FR.utf8, fr_FR.UTF-8, fr_FR.UTF-8@euro, French_Standard, french, fr_FR, fre_FR
