Multi Language Sites - 1 or several Joomla Instances?
I have a site(s) to build which will be multi-languages. I want only Spanish to viewed on the Spanish version of the site, and French only of the French version of the site, Arabic only on the Arabic version of the site, etc...
What are others doing for sites like this?
Separate instances of Joomla for each language?
Different tables for each language in a single instance of Joomla?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many sites are using the individual instances per language with a front page selector. There is good solution for multi-lingual sites (single instance) - this is MambelFish.
I suggest you browse through the sticky thread in the child board "Multilingual Sites) under this board. http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,2989.0.html

Re: Multi Language Sites - 1 or several Joomla Instances?
David,
Thanks for the reply. Currently I have Mambelfish 1.5 installed with Joomla 1.0.7. All seems to working fine. Now, for the issue of content language management.....
As the project is developing... The approach I may take is to:
Link the language selection with a specific template (we have LTR and RTL languages) - any idea how to do this?
Install separate Joomlaboards by language
You mentioned "Many sites are using the individual instances per language with a front page selector." Do you have any examples?
Thanks again! Rog

In Joomla 1.1 LTR/RTL swichablity will be provided and built into the back-end. In the current version you might want to try assigning an RTL template to the specific RTL pages and LTR template to the rest. The template manager allows this.bowhunter wrote: As the project is developing... The approach I may take is to:

Otherwise you might need a hack based on an RTL define in the language file.
I don't recollect a multi instance site offhand but it is an issue that has been discussed many times on this and other forums.

How do you manage two languages (English and Hebrew), for example, on one front page? I have joomfish, but not the 'silver' commercial version.
