Assign language

Post by TomT » Fri Jan 27, 2006 9:01 am

I wonder is it possible to assign pages to language?
I have a bilingual site: Dutch and English. Dutch is the default language. Of corse I want texts like Lees verder.... be translated in Read More....
I prefer not to use Mamblefish or Joomfish because the site structure of the Dutch and English versions are completely different.

There is no such functionality built in to Joomla.

To be able to switch the front-end language selection based on the content item called would require a hack of the core code. Using a specific category (or set of catagories) for pages using one of the two languages would assist in this.

Just thinking out aloud...

- One would need to check the 'sectionid' in the content data object after the query to retrieve the content record is run.
- Then a conditional statement would set the global variable for the language $mosConfig_lang to "english" or "dutch" depending on the value or values of the 'sectionid' variable.
- You would need to know which are the section id's that need to be displayed in the non-default language.

I may be missing something but I think that something on these lines would do the job.
