??? characters in categories manager

I type-in hebrew characters in the category name (backend) and when I save it it gives me ?? characters.
setup: Joomla Version 1.5.10 ; Groupjive - can't find its version number

First, upgrade Joomla to a secure version, the latest. Second, you issue is that your database is not set to handle the Hebrew characters.. you need to use utf-8 as the table collations.

Thanks a lot Brad for the very quick response. How do I setup my database to handle the Hebrew characters.. i.e. use utf-8 as the table collations?
