Hi,
Is there anyone who have some knowledge/experience on how to manage translation work? Does anyone ever worked on a software localisation project?
We are lucky enough to have in the team a professional translator. She is not Irish fluent, but she works with some native speakers. So she knows how to manage translation documents, using a translation memory, generating a glossary, etc, well, anything about computer assisted translation (this is not automated translation).
These are tools aimed at professional translators, and maybe not useful for our volunteer team. We tested the translation manager, but as InforGraph768 stated along the translation forum, there is no collaborative and versioning tool at the moment:
“we are finishing up a component called com_localise aimed at 1.6 and specially designed to translate/create any kind of language pack (Core and 3pd). A largely vamped up com_translationmanager. It is not a collaborative tool though and versioning is not implemented.”
So at the moment, we use spreadsheets, with formulas to manipulate the strings. Not ideal, but working. We have to perform some formulas to track duplicated strings, but John did a great job on that matter.
There are 50 official languages for Joomla, and several on the way. How did your team worked for it? (tools under the GPL licence preferred)
Some famous FLOSS projects (Free/LibreOpen Source Software) did it right, but there is too much to read. If somebody could point us to a right direction, that could help the whole Joomla! project.

Re: How did your team worked for translation?
Sorry to reply to myself, no one really interested yet?
It seems that many people use a spreadsheet to translate the Joomla files and some extensions as well. So it may worth it to write a short explanation on how to use it, with the formulas to import-export from and to the languages files. It will be useful, and reduce the work load on the technical side, and then help to concentrate on the translation in itself. Plus if we make public a template spreadsheet files for Joomla, it can be used for any language!!
To the Translation Team: Did anyone already did it? Is there an ongoing work about that?
Maybe from here "Proposed new translation facility":

Our Khmer Translation team also using WTI.horus_68 wrote:Update: for joomla 1.6 we used http://www.webtranslateit.com

We did not upload the file one by one but the whole zip package via file manager.
If we need update those those files we use push -l km-KH
How to install wti on Windows or
How to install wti on Linux or Mac OS X

wti pull
will download all your language files, except the master language file.
wti pull --all
will download all your language files, including the master language file.
wti pull -l fr

By default, wti uses conditional GET requests to download your files. Meaning that if your files are fresh, it won’t download anything. To force the download, pass the force parameter:
