Thanks a million for the quick reply!

Just out of curiosity: why aren't you sharing the files in a public place with the rest of the community? Development status of the package?

Take care, Chris

Thank you for this good question. Well, I do not have the time right now to find where I read that before, but as far as I know :

"The Translation policy advise not to release publicly some incomplete files, to avoid confusion and disappointment in the "non-community member" public, that's why they are available on request through this forum. "

Jean-Marie or another Working Group member would correct me if I am wrong.

Then we are not able to do more at the moment for a simple reason: there is NO native Irish speaker in the team... so if you know someone who is willing to help this community effort, please, let us know!!

Would it be possible to get the files as well. My Cousin has started a bi-lingual site for Connemara. Its very basic at the moment just a vistaprint site with with both languages written on the same page but i've offered to try and joomlify it for her.

I'd love to make it truly bilingual using joomfish.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi dfegan,

Thank you for your interest in the Joomla Irish Translation project. We are looking for volunteers to help with the translation. So if you come across any missing translation, or if a some strings are not correct in Irish, please let us know, and we will be glad to update the language files accordingly. Of course, you will be credited for this contribution!

And please share the website with us once, it is always nice to see more truly bilingual websites!!

Hello Thanks for sending the files.
I have installed 3 zips.(ga-IE.site.zip, ga-IE.administrator.zip, ga-IE.installation.zip) all installed successfully.
I have installed joomfish 2.2.3. But I cannot see the Irish language in components - JoomFish - Content language list I can see only English which is default.
But I can see Irish language in extensions - language manager.
my joomla version is 1.5.23.
am I missing anything? Please help.

Hi philipsi,
Any update since your last post? Not sure to understand what issue you are experiencing? Do you have a link so we can have a look?
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
If anyone is interested in having the 2.5 language files in Irish, still non completed, let me know in this forum. At the moment, they are more for testing purposes and checking the strings needed in front end. So they will probably change over the next weeks, as long as I have some translations to add (fingers cross ;)
Stay tuned!

Hi RVBGNU,

I wouldn't mind seeing what you've got. I'm using ZOOLingual and at the minute I only need an ga-IE instal to get it working, so even if your translation is incomplete, it will still be useful to me!

Also, as an aside, I didn't realise anyone else had thought of getting a Gaeilge translation for Joomla, and I approached a professional translator recently. She might do the work for free (I built her joomla site for free!) so if you need help getting the project over the finish line she may be able to help you.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

That would be great, thank you for your offer to help, much appreciated here!!

I am sending you the 2.5 files (site/front end is ready), and the spreadsheet we are using as a working document, since 1.0/1.5. So you would have some translation not useful in 2.5 any more, but still useful for a translation memory.

The team had some translation added in the last 6/8 months by a professional translator, but unfortunately, she did not have a lot of spare time to commit to this volunteer project.

Let me know if you need any help or more details to use the files.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Hervé,

Táim ag scríobh díreach chun "Go raibh míle maith agaibh" a rá!
I'm just writing to say thanks!

Seo an suíomh a chuir mé le chéile do mo Chlub CLG, le cabhair ó JoomFish agus Joomla v1.5.
Dúirt mé go sheolfainn ar aghaidh chugat é nuair a bheadh sé déanta! Rinne mé dearmad ar sin!

This is the site that I put together for my GAA club using JoomFish and Joomla v1.5.
I said that I would send it on here when I had it finished! I forgot until now!

Níl aistriúcháin Béarla ar ghach rud ann, tá roinnt de as Gaeilge amháin!
Some of the site is intentionally in Irish only!

Hi Breandán!

Maith fir! Go raibh maith agat le nasc gréasáin.
Good man! Thank you for the web link.

Well done! I am delighted that it worked out well for your Joomla website. I am sure that it will help to raise awareness about your club in the community. All the best for the league and other competitions to the Men and Ladies' teams!

Regarding the Irish Translation Project, if you had some strings translated from the existing English ones, whereas in the language files or in the content, please share them with us. I will integrate them back to the language files so it can benefit to the community.

Slán go fóill!
Bye now!

Hi everyone,
Progress made on translation, with a VirtueMart 2 / Joomla 2.5 project being delivered. Should take a few weeks to update properly the files, because I am getting busy with the old website switch and priority support for this project.
I keep you posted 8)

Hi again..it's been a while.
I just updated Joomfish today from 2.04 to 2.2.3 (Due to GoDaddy updating PHP). All went well and my site didnlt break :-)
However I notice when I go to manage translation "Gaeilge" is no longer an option in the drop down list, just english.

Any ideas?

Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

p.s. total novice here managing a website for a Gaelscoil.

Fixed it!
In Joomfish Control Panel, parameters (Top right).
There is an option to "Show default language on Administration". I set this to Yes and I now have Gaeilge in the drop down box again.

But it begs the Q....When I update the original doc it doesn't update the Irish copy. And Irish is the Default language of the site. So I have to update original (Irish). Copy to Irish. (Which seems silly) And then translate to English. Something else this novice is doing wrong????

OK figured that if there is no Irish translation it defaults to orignal which is Irish....Silly me! All the extra work I've been giving myself!!!!

Folks, we still do not have a 2.5 Irish language pack.
We have a Scottish Gaelic and since 2 days ago a Welsh pack...

Hi folks,

We are just in the process of pitching for a project which will probably at a minimum require an Irish Gaelic language pack, potentially requiring Cant as well.

Happy to contribute to this if we win the project as we'll need to create it anyway!

Joomla 2.5 pack

Hello!

I'm working on a English-Irish site and it's Joomla 2.5 - I just need (even if incomplete) an Irish language pack to jump start our site. I've installed Josetta (another translation package, we needed to go to Joomla 2.5 for security reasons) and need a pack just to get it going.

We have a native speaker or two on the team and I could share any updates/enhancements that they would provide.

Thanks for any help!
Liz

I actually only started using Joomla yesterday, I had no idea that it was this flexible. For an English bloke working and living in France, near Italy with some business in Spain, this is a godsend ;)

Just for the record one week forward and I am loving Joomla. I honestly believed the world began and ended at Wordpress. I am finding explaining the Joomla CMS to french users much easier than I ever did doing the same thing with WP.

Hi Ruth,
Thank you for your offer. How is your project getting along?

Unfortunately, the little team of the 3 of us, including no native speaker, is stalled at the moment. It is so difficult to find people to translate as a volunteer. Plus not being afraid to maybe not being 100% Academic Irish...

Any way, good luck!

I am happy enough to be busy and paid with my work for Joomla, working sometimes at the week-end to meet deadlines. I even have so little time left for the Bug Squad :-[
C'est la Vie!

Talk to you soon!

Cearbhall, a chara,

Sorry for the late reply. Sometimes suffering from discouragement, while still looking for help from native speakers... Hard to find volunteers in this period, really!!

Any way, we have some 2.5 files, not completed, and I am still hoping to add some of the missing strings from friends and relatives, but time is a precious and rare asset at the moment :-#

You should have the links in the PM I am sending to you. Please let share with us some additions to the translation, even small, if you had some. I will integrate them and update the Irish language files.

Slán go fóill,
Hervé
