Issue on Welsh language
Hi there
Looks like Welsh is not working properly. Joomla doesn't return Welsh if you call to getKnownLanguages method. We have debugged this issue and looks like the file cy-GB-xml lacks a metadata section.
Anybody able to fix it? Thank you!

Re: Issue on Welsh language
Hi AndresNWD,
Tried installing Welsh and can see it has an issue for the administrator part of the language pack which shows blank on most parts in the language overview.
Looks like it is the cy-GB.xml that by mistake is similar to the install.xml that you find in the same folder. They would need to correct the cy-GB.xml to have same setup as the corresponding en-GB.xml

Not just the XML. Most of the admin language files are missing

Re: Issue on Welsh language
In the mean while, I have corrected the pack.
It is now available as version 3.3.0.2
Please test http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtrans ... ge_id=6892

Re: Issue on Welsh language
According to the stats this thread has been viewed more than 12k times.
So a lot of people interested in the Welsh Language pack it seems.
I volunteered to help another Joomla! user develop the pack that is there now - he did the translation; I put together the pack (not completely correctly it seems)
I am currently designated the co-ordinator but have no knowledge of the Welsh language and so cannot update the current pack.
Does anyone want to help with the translation or take over the co-ordination role completely?

Re: Issue on Welsh language
Hi,
Do the issues still exist?
I live and work in Wales and have built many Welsh sites and would be interested in the Welsh language pack! I had no idea that it was available. Does it translate the whole back end and all the button etc in the front end?
If you get/have the correct translations it'd be amazing!
Thanks!
Megs

Re: Issue on Welsh language
The language pack should provide translation for all core Joomla strings. Extensions would need their own pack.
The current Welsh language pack is not up to date - only covers up to 3.3
See http://community.joomla.org/translation ... html#cy-gb

Thank you for your quick reply.
That's really good to know, thank you.
Do you know when it will be up-to-date? Is there some way I can help with making it up-to-date?

Re: Issue on Welsh language
As mentioned I do not speak Welsh and if would be helpful if you could translate some of the strings.
I am a bit committed to other things at the present but over the next few weeks will try to look out what needs to be done and get back to you if you are willing to collaborate.

I can see what I can do... I'm afraid I'm only a welsh learner but I might be able to help in some way, so long as it's not pages and pages of translation!

Re: Issue on Welsh language
Hi
I've been doing a little bit of work on translating and correcting the Welsh translation on Crowdin. I can see that a lot of work needs to be done on it. Do you, Trevor, have the access to check my suggestions and approve them? I have usually justified my choices by referring to established sources such as BydTermCymru or Porth Termau Cenedlaethol Cymru.
I would like to know whether the professionally translated Welsh version for Joomla 2.5 produced by Powys County Council has been incorporated into the 3.x version. I don't think it has which is a pity as it was good. This version was not the official version which was actually extremely poor and unusable as the co-ordinator at the time was not a fluent speaker but seemed to think that machine translation was good enough. To be fair the current 3.x version is quite good for the frontend but not for the backend and, of course, needs updating.
I understand that Trevor the current co-ordinator is not a fluent Welsh speaker and is also busy. I would be prepared to help or even take over the role of co-ordinator on the understanding that I am also quite busy at the moment but foresee that I can dedicate more time in a month or so.
If I do take over the role of co-ordinator you may wish to know a little about me.
I am a fluent first language Welsh speaker
I am a recently retired IT Manager (in a large secondary school) therefore my main areas of expertise are in Networking, Windows OS, Windows Servers etc
I am not an expert in Website design but have been using Joomla! for a couple of websites on a voluntary basis for about 8 years
I will be continuing with the voluntary work but also doing a couple of websites as a freelance web designer

Re: Issue on Welsh language
I have no problem with Dyfrig taking over as co-ordinator. In fact believe it would be in the best interests of the Joomla community to have an up-to-date Welsh translation with someone capable of maintaining it.
It was a couple of years ago, but I believe I and my collaborator at the time used the Powys 2.5 version translation as a starting point but maybe it was another one that we used.
We concentrated on the frontend as it was thought that a backend user would be content to work in English only - maybe lazy of us but as I have no Welsh at all that was fine for me.
Not sure of the way forward from here. Could the Moderator advise?

Re: Issue on Welsh language
dyfrig and I are exchanging information on this subject. I will coordinate with dyfrig and guide him in his effort as the Welsh language's Translation Coordinator.
In case if trevorg15's help is needed, dyfrig will get in touch.
