Joomla translation questions
Hello
Two questions:
1. There are different style of quotations in en-GB: quotes by ' characters, "e; html entities and of course _QQ_, should we use only _QQ_ for every quote or there are some restrictions/guidelines?
2. Joomla! vs Joomla - how and when... all I had read about this is vague...
Thanks

Re: Joomla translation questions
Can someone verify if strings like:
are correct or not (technical and language) ? from my perspective (not native english user) it doesn't make much sense, shouldn't 'and the calculated' be replaced with 'are the calculated' ?
This example string COM_CATEGORIES_ACCESS_EDITOWN_DESC is located in admin/com_categories, there are more like those in admin/com_content.
Thanks in advance
Code: Select all
New setting for <strong>edit own actions</strong> on this category and the calculated setting based on the parent category and group permissions.

Thanks in advance

Re: Joomla translation questions
"and the calculated" is correct.
The tip explains both the dropdown where one can choose a Permission AND the calculated settings for that

Re: Joomla translation questions
I have a bit trouble understanding (and therefore translating) the term Live update. How is it different from "regular updating"? Or is it just going to replace the term Update we use currently?

Re: Joomla translation questions
I think I translated it more like 'Direct Update', since there isn't really any short meaningful translation of it. And anyhow it's what it actually is, a direct update over internet (download, unzip, update) with one click (or is it being automated now?).

Re: Joomla translation questions
As I see it currently, there's no difference between Live Update and Update, that we've had so far in Joomla. At least from the viewpoint of enduser. Am I correct?

Re: Joomla translation questions
The thing is the update component has some changes, where you can update directly without downloading (the "live update"), but also download and then upload and update with a update pack.
So I guess they needed to separate those two, but it's not a real "live update" ...
Please install and check out the update component in the latest version of Joomla, maybe it's easier to find the right words for your language when you see it in use.

Re: Joomla translation questions
I'm not comparing Live update with Upload and update. I get the differences between Live update and Upload and update. And for these two there is clear line between them.
I'm trying to get clear picture if there is any difference between Live Update and Update. From the user point of view Upload and update is new one in this party. Live update just seems to replace the old button/text Update. Is this right conclusion?
Before we just clicked the button Update and the update came. Now the Live update does the same thing. In most cases user doesn't know (and even care) what happens there behind the scenes.

Meaning it's the same thing, but naming changed to tell the user the difference between direct update and download/upload update ...
