Need Help on Setup . . .think I screwed up??

Post by confusedxx » Thu Aug 02, 2007 3:08 pm

Hello guys.

I need some advice and help.  I think I screwed up and want to see if that is really true and if there is a way to fix it without starting everything all over!  The website is a bit over 1 year old and I have not been updating the components much but now with a few changes I need to make, I am questioning the whole setup and some of the components.

Facts:
1.  I am running a multi-lingual website in English, French and German.
2.  Each langauge has it's own joomla installation (for example:  English = http://www.xxxxx.com  /  German = http://www.xxxxx.com/de  / French = http://www.xxxxx.com/fr)
3.  All three installations share the same database as set in the configuration.php file
4. I am using OpenSEF 2.0.0-RC5_SP2 for the Friendly URLs  --> I do not think this even exists anymore --> is there something better or newer that works just as well?
5.  I am using Joom!Fish Version 1.7 for the translations.

Reason for Setup
The reason I set up each language in a separate installation but still shared the database was due to OpenSEF.  Basically with the old version of OpenSEF that I had, you cannot enable friendly URLs and Joomfish.  It is/was a huge compatibility issue.  Is there a way to display google friendly URLs AND multiple languages at the same time now without having the EN/FR/DE flags added now?

EDIT:  I also did it this way so that my site would appear in Google for each of the languages.  It is/was a problem where having only one installation directory google saw only the content in English and would not index the other languages.  Thus you never appear in the foreign language googles

Questions and Help Needed

1.  Can I have a single installation of Joomla that supports Google friendly URLs and Multiple languages?

What components do I need to update/replace to make that happen?

Thanks for your help!
