help anyone?

I am trying to build an English/Hebrew site using joomfish for the Hebrew translaton. To switch between rtl and ltr templates I have set up a dummy template index.php file with the following code:

global $mosConfig_lang;
if ($mosConfig_lang=="hebrew") include_once ("index_he.php");
else include_once ("index_en.php");
?>

This works fine in some cases but not in others. Could someone have a look at this problem:

1) Go to the site http://www.israelcatholic.com

2) Click on the little Israel flag to change to Hebrew site. The site correctly switches to the rtl template.

3) Click on the second item from the right on the top menu (מי אנחנו). The page correctly opens at http://www.israelcatholic.com/content/v ... 4/lang,iw/ - still on the rtl template.

3) Click on the fourth item from the right on the top menu (קישורים). The page correctly opens at the component http://www.israelcatholic.com/component ... 3/lang,iw/ - still on the rtl template.

4)  Now click on the first item on the right of the top menu (דף הבית) to return to the home page. Now the site goes to http://www.israelcatholic.com/content/view/20/103/ - but switches back the ltr english template because /lang,iw/ has disappeared from the link.

In summary: anytime I go to a component page on the Hebrew site, the next page I go to omits the language specification in the url (/lang,iw) and the site switches back to the ltr template. I then have to reclick the Israel flag to return to the rtl template.

Anyone know why it does that?
Many thanks,

Hi,

I have just checked your site. It seems that you have solved the problem. The site seems to behave correctly. Can you please post here how you solved the problem. I am trying to do the same for my site http://beit-sahour.info which have English and Arabic. Currently I left both languages in rtl mode because I did not mange to make switch properly to ltr when choosing English.

Thanks,
Isam

hi Isam,
no, actually I have not found a solution, and no one has made any constructive solution so far, also not on the joomfish forum. I'm still hoping for some genius who will have some insight about this.

Hi, I'm having the same problem but I had a thought

What if instead of including a different index.php page, we include a different .css file - one setting up "RTL" and the other not?

I didnt test it out yet, though... when I test, I'll post the results here...

What do you think? could this work?

hi mooeypoo,

Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I had already thought of that when I set up the hebrew site. I use both a different index.php and .css file for English and Hebrew. As far as I remember I think I need the separate index.php because of some changes in graphics (header, some inverted ltr to rtl things), so I don't know if your idea would work. But I am not expert, so maybe someone would know how to implement this idea?

I am mostly asking myself where are the joomfish people and why they don't seem too interested in fixing this bug. I posted on their site too and have not gotten any useful solution so far.

dear all,
am working on such a site as well ...... Arabic and a Dutch one , since I’m using Arabic as a default language I did change the layout to RTL (right to left template) , and so far everything works fine, till i get to the point to have the Dutch Lang pack installed as well as joomla fish 1.8 , and tries to translate the site from Arabic to Dutch , and since that Dutch is a LTR language , am facing problems of the ordering of the text and the text direction and menu positions , can anyone tells me if its possible to point site to use LTR template when someone clicks on the Dutch language? so that the aligning looks good ?as i can see jazzbird did manage to have working particialy , Jazzbird , would you please tell how did you manage to have it done , please in details if possible as am not that expert with PHP ....

efransi,

if you look at my first post of this thread, you can see the bit of code that I have in my dummy index.php file. This selects either a rtl index_he.php or ltr index_en.php file. These two files, in turn, call up different .css files.

see this link: http://www.joomla-book.info/ for some help on converting your template to rtl.
Good luck!

in the meantime, I am still nowhere near to having found a solution for my problem, and continue my appeal for help!

Is it possible to successfully host RTL and LTR content using joomla and joomfish? - it seems that the prior poster are experiencing some fairly basic problems -- without resolution?

Someone please update this if its been solved -- as I am conisdering a bi-directional deployment based around Joomla..

Thank You

I am not sure if this works for Hebrew, but it does work for Arabic. Edit the 'template_rtl.css' CSS file and add the following:

Code:
#main #page, #left, #header form .inputbox {
font-size: 150%;
}

Change 150% to suit your preference. Hope this helps!
