How to add alias for an article created on the front end?

Hi,

i would like to optimize my URLs by enabling SEF Urls option.

I have set the alias for the menu items and for the articles i have created from the admin panel.

But when comes to the front end (my client is going to add articles this way), i cannot figure out how to add the article alias. Should i make any modifications to the core? And what if the core file i modify, gets overwritten later from a potential update?
