Hello,

i have a new customer with an outdated Accessible Joomla 1.0.11a and Joomfish 1.7.
The system clearly needs updates, which I will provide.

BUT, looking into the system I noticed, that the chinese translations of contents work fine in Frontend while in the Backend when editing the contents I see only the charcters in the rich text editor displayed correctly.

In the plain input fields HTML special characters are output and that makes it very uncofortable editing these texts like menu items or titles of content. You clearly can not corrct a typeing error tghis way, bcause that is not human readible....

Is this behaviour normal or some kind of bug or misconfiguration?

Sorry but a new customer in 2009 - about 1 week before the end of live of 1.0 - should really use Joomla 1.5 and Joom!Fish 2.0!

This way you solve your problem out of the box.

Yeah, you are right, but the system is as it is for now. And as I said, I will make the updates. But I first will have to do the update to 1.0.15 and then I can go for the migration to 1.5

BUT that was not the topic....
I was wondering, if I will run into some trouble with the described issue REGARDING the Update/Migration process.

Will I have to fix this before upgrading, what will happen with the database tables?
That's why I wanted to know, if the described behaviour is normal for a Joomla 1.0.11 and Joomfish 1.7??

I'm not so concerned about future inputs as for the already existing content in Russian and Chinese...

Its risky but might work. I have not tested it myself. I know that I migrated various 1.0 installations to 1.5 without problems, but German doesn't have anything near complex chars than Russian and Chinese.

I highly recommend upgrading before and using the compatibility for the moment. This is far more secure.

But the content is already in there, so updating and migrating is my only choice other than reentering all text for content elements again.

Funny thing is, that the german characters like üÜäö are displayed correctly in the backend fields mentioned. Might be that the charset iso-8859 is supported better...

I will try and see what happens, when I update...

This is related to the fact that the German chars are included in the iso standard. Normally if you write Russian or Chinese content the template contains a switch of the charset for the site. This is integrated in the template. If you check out http://www.joomfish.net/en/documentatio ... -and-utf-8 you will get some information how it can be done.
