How do I display pdf content from my component?

My component now properly displays html content, but I also need to display pdf content. (The component retrieves the content from files, NOT http URLs, so I can't use the wrapper directly -- as far as i know.)

Any tips?

Also, I was surprised that I really don't need to muck around with patTemplate when including html to put my content pages inside of the joomla interface/template; it seems that simply echo'ing (via readfile() or whatever) the html content from the component works fine. Why use patTemplate when you have the content ready?
