just thought i would bring up the issues I had a few months ago, seems good that things have moved on

since then I have been looking at the compass designs tutorial and used various extras like extmenu and rd sitemap

I think you can build a pretty accessible site with joomla, just shame about the tables in the main body items, well heres waiting for version 1.2

been building a site over at http://www.filmworkshop.com/newsite/ (may go to the http://www.filmworkshop.com/ next week though and be live) and reasonably happy with some of the accessible design using css. Yet to implement a stylesheet switcher though such as invasion of the body switchers from http://www.allthatmalarkey.co.uk/ and develop the print and accessible alternative css. also a little worried that I am using css diplay:none to hide the jump to nav and jump to content links, does anyone have any suggestions if this causes problems (e.g. is it better to use a large negative margin instead)

bongiben, don't use display:none to hide your skip nav - a negative margin is a much better option.  Screen readers and most assistive devices now recognise display:none, so do not "see" the "jump to" that you want them to see.

Rather than list a number of accessibility related sites, here are my del.icio.us links on the subject. Beyond Section 508 and WCAG, there are also the British RNIB See It Right guidelines, although most of them are covered by WCAG anyway.

For those who are anywhere near San Francisco, Hong Kong or London in a few months and who can convince their boss to spend some time and money on training, I heartily recommend the @media conference. I went to the first 2 events in 2005 and 2006 and I have found it one of the best and most informative technical conferences ever. Believe me, being introduced to accessibility by a blind speaker using a screen reader is an enlightening experience.
