Doc -

Please see < http://dev.joomla.org/component/option, ... ,33/p,286/ >, then perhaps you might see fit to say "Thanks!" while you are there.

Suggestion
Allow people to edit robots.txt and .htaccess from inside of Joomla

Suggestion Description
Much in the same way as the template files can be edited, we should be able to edit these from the admin also. In that area we can include various pieces of advice such as "make sure non-www and www point to the same site" etc.

Supporting argument

Robots.txt is an easy way to really refine SEO on your site but people don't realise its importance. It also has a very shallow learning curve.
.htaccess - well, we don't need much info on the importance of that

How other systems handle this

Wordpress allows .htaccess to be edited from the admin

Overall, I think a lot of good could be done by just adding little warnings in various places and changing some of the default settings.

  • On installation add the sitename inside the Global Configuration metadata rather than the current advertisement for Joomla
  • Suggest the PDF / print buttons be turned off to avoid duplicate content issues
  • Reverse the Site Name - Page Title ordering in metadata
  • Warning people that their site name should be a site name, not stuffed with keywords

Small changes that could go a long way....

There is a newer thread going on in the Wishlist and Requests forum.  Please take this discussion there.  I will close this thread as it is very old and has little current information in it.

See this thread: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,198299.0.html

Also moving this post to that forum:

Great discussion.

So, where are we on Dublin Core Metadata.  Is this adopted in 1.1.x or 1.5?
