I'm also looking into converting an existing, JoomlaHacks bridged SMF install to JoomlaBoard. We only have '3386 Posts in 789 Topics by 48 Members' and some of those might be manually weeded out before the conversion just to make it as smooth as possile.

My question is: How does the converter handle the child boards that we use SMF? Does it just break the child link and make each child board its own board?

The text of one of the posts within your SMF forum has an "'" (apostrophe) that is screwing up the SQL...you have to ensure that all posts all properly demilimited - that is - "\'" (The backslash tells the parser to ignore the usual meaning of the apostrophe)

That might not make much sense - but that's what's happening.

Regards;

Kevin

I seem to recall seeing this about 6 months ago when I first looked into the conversion, but I didn't see it anywhere when I looked this time. So I need to recreate the forum categories by hand in Joomlaboard and then make the conversion. Got it. I'll give it a shot.

can anyone help me? i get the same error, but without the number 96202. can anyone explain a little bit better what to do?

thanks in advance.....

According to http://www.free-translation.com:

Quote:
NONEXISTENT CATEGORIE IN THE BASIS MAMBO!!!

In other words, the category doesn't exist in the database.

Thank you cruisinflatout for the wonderful script. I have used the script and could successfully migrate from SMF to Joomla Board and then subsequently to FireBoard. There is one observation though in the script.

The script will give unpredictable results if boards in different SMF categories have the same name. For example, if A is a category and B and C are boards in it. If there is another category called D with two boards in it named, E and C, then the script fails to work properly. To work around, just rename the board whose name is same across categories in SMF and then run the script. Once the script is successful, rename the board to old one in Joomla Board.

Thanks again for the very useful script.

Cheers
Vijay

I am rather  a noob honestly :(

I ran into a problem in connect dbb  part.

I don't know  how do I  create a connection file

If I understood correctly in my convert folder there should be 3 files: 1-  mysql.php, 2- index.php and 3 -  a connection file.
But I don't know which name to give to the connection file. I presume that it is going to be a php.( I think I can fill in the variables correctly)
Can you explain please which name and which format is required?

It would be so nice if someone can recapitulate the whole process and include all the 3 files as attachements.
(The information is scattered and  scripts are to be collected in various posts)

Thanks a lot

Your connection details go into mysql.php.  There are only 2 files total.

I do apologize to those that are running into issues converting.  I created this script for my own needs and posted it here for those that could use it.

If you are still running into problems, I would try posting on the Fireboard forums and see if an official script (or better one) is in the works.

Thanks cruisinflatout to reply

I still need some help where to insert  connection parameters  paragraph in mysql.php. I gave a try and  did some insertion attempts but  I did not manage to find correct line to insert. I got "can not redeclare..." type of warning.  Can you  put here mysql.php with this db connection  string in place?

Never mind if  we run or not into issues. I do this on a test installation and you are providing help for the rest of us.  In fireboard  forum there is no satisfactory converter solution. I tried before their converter. In my case forum categories were converted but not the messages. This was  3 months ago.  I gave up after many attempts.  So I stick with your solution.

It is so unfortunate that I am not myself a coder but I provide language specific support in groupjive forums to pay back my dept to open source community.

Kindly

So I finally make the mysql script to work.  But I get this categories inexistant error too.  I created one of the categories manually in joomlaboard and script tells another inexistant category. I dont think we are supposed to manually create the  very same categories in joomlaboard  side. So what is wrong?

I am using joomla 1.0.13 ,  SMF 1.1 RC2  and latest joomlaboard-1.1.5.2...  Is there a version issue?
You said: "I created one that I've tested on Joomla 1.0.8 and SMF 1.1 RC2"  What was your joomlaboard version?
