help on getting started with everything

Ok, i am webmaster for the website fitchburghighband.org, it is a local high school marching band. The site is being moved to a new server, and I am installing joomla!. I do not know which one to install, and would like your opinion on it. Also, I feel that the template for joomla.org is perfect for my site (with the only thing being to change the top to one mopre fitting) so, if any one could help me to get ahold of that template, it would be apriciated.

I would also like either smf or phpbb3 (preferably phpbb integration) to be intergrated as well. I am proficiant at code, just not nearly good enough to make my own template.

The short answer I'll give is :

You could use Joomla 1.0 with Fireboard Forum if you need really extensive possibilities on extensions and controls.

You could use Joomla 1.5 with one of many forum components, which will give you a better interface, but slightly less in terms of available extensions.

From what I've heard, using the latest Joomla version seems like the way to go - but like the previous post said - read the documentation, etc, before making a choice.
