Tamil-India (ta-IN) Language Packs for Joomla! 1.7 Released

Post by imanickam » Wed Jul 20, 2011 10:04 am

Happy to announce that today (July 20. 2011), the Tamil-India (ta-IN) Admin and Site language packs for Joomla! 1.7 have been released.

These packs could be downloaded from http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtrans ... ge_id=5893 and installed.

This time, in addition to Admin and Site packs, a full pack also has been released. The full pack gives you the ability to install both the Admin & Site packs at the same time in one installation.

Dear imanickam,

Great job. I am just now in the process of developing a multi-language site. I have a question re Tamil content. How do I get content in Tamil displayed ? I do not find a font. Is there a trick? Any support appreciated.

Please take a look: www.betruenotviolent.org

Thanks...

Reviewed the site mentioned and I could see the following Tamil script in the breadcrumbs.
இருக்குமிடம்: முகப்பு Tamil Nadu (S. India)
As long as the database's collation sequence is UTF-8, everything should be OK. Also, check what is the collation sequence in all the tables of the database that is being used with Joomla!

To show the contents in Tamil, you have to create a content in Tamil.

What could help you typing in Tamil is Transliteration of Google (http://www.google.com/transliterate/urdu). A better way would be to install and use the IME (http://www.google.com/ime/transliteration/) from Google. Once installed, this software could be used not only with Joomla! but in any place where you could type (e.g., mail, document, spreadsheet).

Hope this helps.

Yes, the database isutf8_general_ci, and with the google tool it is working just fine. However, I was wondering if there is an option of paste and copy. I have several Tamil fonts installed and most of our translation come in word...

Thank you for your support on this :)

To copy and paste, probably what you could is:

- Invoke a plain Text Editor that supports various encoding (e.g., NotePad++)
- Set the Encoding as Encoding in UTF-8 without BOM
- Open the Word document
- Select the Text and copy the text (to the clipboard)
- Paste the copied text in the Text Editor document that is opened
- Select the text from the Text Editor and copy the text (to the clipboard)
- Paste the text in the article

Note: I know that the editor JCE used to have an option to copy the text from Word document. However, I have not tried it. Probably, you could try it.
