Allright. I have been asked many times so I thought I should make this a sticky. So, how can you help?

There are many ways you can help. The key would be how would you like to help? Anything is welcomed.

Currently, IndicJoomla! is looking for translators in different Indic Languages.

  • Marathi
  • Gurmukhi
  • Gujrati
  • Telugu
  • Tamil
  • Malyalam
  • Sindhi
  • Bengali
  • Kannada
  • ......

If you think you can do translation in any of the above language or you want to add your language to the list, drop in a line here and I will contact you as soon as possible.

Samit is already working on the Marathi version of Joomla.
May be you can help me do  Quality Assurance on it?
Once I have the files from Samit, you can read through the file and make sure that the spellings and grammer is OK...

Hi Vish

I would like to know what are the basic requirements for doing the translation apart from knowing the language. I was thinking about getting a group together for the Malayalam language

Regards

Well, As I have stated, the first step is to translate the language file into your language. I would recommned that start  with english.php and start translating it. Let me know if you need my help.

Although the question is for Vish, since I saw this post let me inform you. You will find it inside the folder languages once you download Joomla and unzip it.
But Vish, which Malayalam font set to be used? and how? Is it possible to change just the text inside ""in the php files in word and copy it back to notepad?

I would recommend that you find some GNU/GPL Malyalam font and use it

Neel

No one is working on Marathi. Samit offered to work on it and I have not seen any progress for last almost 1 year. So, if you want to start, you will be the ribbon cutter !!

Let me know if you need my help.

Congratulations ! WHat did you name her?
Yes, that is correct, start with the english.php, and just start converting the strings. The example that you have given looks good to me.

You want to make sure that you get the latest english.php

Sunil

Well, I know romit has worked on the bengali version of 1.5 but I do not plan to work on it until it goes final, but that my preference. Its upto you.

I would highly recommend though that you play with creating pdf in malayalam in 1.5, that is something that we know will be there and you can start working on that now...wihtout having to wait for anything.
