I searched everywhere for a kannnada language pack but couldn't find it. Now since I'm just a student, I won't understand all the complicated coding involved in making a language pack. But I have the Hindi language pack and have decided to undertake the tedious task of replacing devanagari script to kannada. But since I'm a novice, I don't know whether to edit it in Unicode or Ansi. Can anyone please tell me what to do? Or whether there is an easier way to achieve my goal?

Shri Krishna,

Nice to know that there is an effort to have the Kannada Language Pack. For you to manage and create language files the extension Translations Manager (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/languages/language-edition/1776) would be of help. I believe that the latest version of the extension is available at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla_1_5_tr1/frs/. Please download these extensions and use the latest one.

Also, the extension Indic Writer (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/languages/multi-lingual-content/10943) would be of help.

If you are using Google IME (http://www.google.com/ime/transliteration/) it would be very helpful. This plugin not only helps in Joomla! but also in all places of Windows O/S where you have to type something.

Note: I am assuming that you are preparing the pack for Joomla! 1.5.x. The latest version of Joomla! 1.5.x is 1.5.23.

No problem... Let us wait for 1 more post from you.

Welcome to the Joomla! community of volunteers.

Unless you try to customize things in Joomla! there is no need to edit the code. There are several sites that offer tutorials on PHP, CSS, and JavaScript and you could learn from then as the need arises. One such site is http://w3schools.com/.

One more tool that would help you in your effort for editing the translation files in case of need would be NotePad++ and you can download it from http://notepad-plus-plus.org/.

I am surprised about the the 3 editions. I suggest downloading the Installer (http://download.tuxfamily.org/notepadplus/5.9.3/npp.5.9.3.Installer.exe).

You need Unicode version as you would be saving your files as you would be using the Encoding UTF-8 Without BOM.
