Has there been any progress with a Punjabi translation yet?  I have seen a few posts from 2005 but can not find any more information.

Sorry can not help, just looking for information!

Unfortunately no. There has been little progress in the punjabi lang translation.

I am looking for some help with Punjabi translation, if anyone available there, pm me.

There is nothing that is available as of right now. We did not have any volunteers for punjabi.

Lets wait and watch, if you know someone who might be interested in helping us out, let me know.

You do not need to know PHP to translate joomla into Punjabi/Gurmukhi. All you need to be able to do is the following:

-Read the texts in english in the joomla language files
-Translate it into Gurmukhi
-Type it in the text file

And thats about it.

Once you have done that will all the english texts, I can help you with the PHP part.

If you are interested, lets get on a chat sometime so that I can explain this to you in more detail.

Looks like Gavnit is on the job, that said and if things were to go smoothly in getting the work done, when is the punjabi language pack likely to be ready? A rough estimate would do at this time.

Waiting in anticipation ...

OK, i missed it before.
hmmmm...so you want your clients to be able to type in gurmukhi?
I guess the only way is to have some way to replace the keystrokes with equavalent gurmukhi scripts in unicode. By simply installing a font, you cannot give that ability to the users. You need more than just installing a font.

I have been working on a project like this for a while and have a simple prototype working on IE only. You can see it at

http://www.pahuja.net/misc/spp/examples/

Notice there is a drop down from where you can choose what script you want to use and it works in IE. I am still working on getting this to work in FF but have not had time to work on it. Also note that this is *not* JCE but TinyMCE plugin. Once I can get it working here, I am sure it should be portable to JCE. But that would be after I can get it to work in FF.

I hope this helps you get atleast some direction. Sorry I could not be of any more help.

The language xml file for Joomla 1.0.x has to be encoded iso-8559-1.
The language.php should indeed be utf8 no bom as you did.

Many strings are missing in this pack and some files are useless (WS_FTP.LOG, Akhar.txt and all english language files as well as index.html).
One can attach a zip file with this forum's post. No use to use rapidshare.

I can't translate in Punjabi the untranslated strings...
The rest is obvious.
