Just wondering Predator,  do you use any vbulletin mods/hacks ?
like Geek Article System ?
vBChat v2.3  ?
Paypal Donations for vBulletin ?

etc ...

will any hacks/mods get preferential support ?

Ok Predator I'm about to install Vbulletin...Mambo is in already in case you forgot...

Now should I simply install Vbulletin using the mambo database and making sure the VB3- prefix is set or should I simply install it to it's own database and let the component do this?

From what I got from the manual I could skip the step of merging the two databases phpmyadmin if I simply install VBull into the mambo database...

I'll wait till I hear back from you before I proceed.

You must install vBulletin in the same database.

The ability to use separate databases will come in a later version.

Thanks Ken,

the reason I asked is the manual said something about combining the databases using another program...
Since I don't already have a vbulletin database I just want to be sure I can skip that step and simply install vbulletin (using the vbul installer) and change the config.php to use the mambo database...
I've backed everything up so I'm going to try it that way...

Wish me luck! LOL

Well that didn't go so well...

Checked permissions, restored files 3 or 4 times...
Patching always fails on user.php of Vbull and my index.php of my termplate...
And the com doesn't recognize the login mod as instaled no matter which version (b35 or 1.x(

If someone could tell me how to manually patch these two files I'll try that...

Thanks Predator that helped turn on some greenies

But there was no direction on what needed to be added to my default mambo template which is still red in wrapped mode.
the only other red I have is the Mod login which appears on the uninstall section of the modules but not in the modules section itself. (strange I thought but that might be normal)

The problem I have is when I log into vbull it just sends me to the site and when I click on forum again I have to relogin...
I should just take this over to your place though if you prefer...

Patching the index.php from the theme is only needed in wrapped mode:

Must be the first line:

defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Direct Access to this location is not allowed.' );

defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Direct Access to this location is not allowed.' );

Due to the mod_vbridge_login is the module also published? If not it is still red.

If you read slowly you see the filename is config.php~  means ~ at the end this is only a backup file guess the folder is not writeable, but the changes are made, so continue ;)

The first block is the unwrapped mode this is to install by default.

Write permission is to the file for patching and backup file, so which chmod do you have?

The second one is only an expansion for the wrapped mode to be able to work also in wrapped mode if in the config of vbridge selected but if you know you want to run this in unwrapped mode you don`t need to install this..

So the patching is failed go into the folder /administrator/components/com_vbridge/patches/ there is a file named installed.list if the size is greater than 0 delete the content inside the file so it has size = 0

Please check your chmods

Depends on your main focus of the site, is there a big community planned i recommend vbulletin to handle the registration, has more function to avoid registration via scripts.

Part of the problem with the login mod is that it doesn't show up in the site modules so I can publish it...
Is it in the Admin modules? I'll look there...

The first block is the unwrapped mode this is to install by default.

The installation showed me this so i thought all was fine and clicked proceed (but then i got those errors shown above):

  Type    Action    Description
1.    Execute Modification    ./forums/profile.php    Success
2.    Execute Modification    ./forums/login.php    Success
3.    Execute Modification    ./forums/register.php    Success
4.    Execute Modification    ./forums/admincp/user.php    Success

Write permission is to the file for patching and backup file, so which chmod do you have?

The second one is only an expansion for the wrapped mode to be able to work also in wrapped mode if in the config of vbridge selected but if you know you want to run this in unwrapped mode you don`t need to install this

yes i want to run it in wrapped mode and yes this is selected in the config and this is why i tried to install the wrapped extension patch.

So the patching is failed go into the folder /administrator/components/com_vbridge/patches/ there is a file named installed.list if the size is greater than 0 delete the content inside the file so it has size = 0

The size is 0k, but i went to edit it in cPanel and it has this in it:

vBridgeMod_vb3.0.7_3.0.8_unwrapped|^|vBridgeMod_vb3.0.7_3.0.8_unwrapped.zip|^|Predator:com_vbridge_307_unw_11|^|1.01a

The list files above must be writeable via chmod 755 at least

If both patchings are failed because of the writepermission clean the content so the installed.list has the size 0

All listed in the patchhandler

for unwrapped mode:

./forums/profile.php
./forums/login.php
./forums/register.php
./forums/admincp/user.php

for the wrapped mode expansions:

./mambo/templates/yourtheme/index.php
./forums/includes/functions.php
./forums/showthread.php

Only if both patchinstallation went wrong clean the installed.list made the chmod changes and try only the patches again, the rest is ok.

Changed the following:

/forums/profile.php - 777
/forums/login.php - 777
/forums/register.php - 777
/forums/admincp/user.php - 777

/templates/****/index.php - 777
/forums/includes/functions.php - 777
/forums/showthread.php - 777

And as i couldnt edit /administrator/components/com_vbridge/patches/installed.list i also changed:

/administrator/components/com_vbridge - 777
/administrator/components/com_vbridge/patches - 777
/administrator/components/com_vbridge/language - 777

and then i changed:

/administrator/components/com_vbridge/patches/installed.list - 777

and made it empty.

Tried to apply first patch again , got "Success" on everything but when i clicked "Proceed" i got:

Warning: copy(/home/****/public_html/forums/profile.php~): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/cidmemb/public_html/administrator/components/com_vbridge/patchhandler.php on line 1143

Warning: copy(/home/****/public_html/forums/login.php~): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/****/public_html/administrator/components/com_vbridge/patchhandler.php on line 1143

The Patch was installed successfully. You should now be able to use whatever functionality it adds or changes; or not be able to use functionality it removes.

And then i tried to install wrapped extension patch and got "Failure" on my template's index.php again even though it has 777 also.

Any ideas?

Update:

I clicked proceed anyway on the wrapped extension patch and i got this:

Warning: copy(/home/****/public_html/forums/includes/functions.php~): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/****/public_html/administrator/components/com_vbridge/patchhandler.php on line 1143
