CoreSEF Hack for Joomla 1.0.3

As discussed in this thread: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,427.0.html i'm pleased to announce the Release of an Core Hack to give you extended SEF URLS without using a component for it.

The Hack also supports the sef_ext.php files for SEF Advance.

Demo:  http://www.joomladeveloping.org/

Beware this is a Corehack and not an official Core Addon.

Just overwrite the files in your Joomla 1.0.3 installation with the files contained in the zip folder, go to your Global Configuration and change the needed values. This only works if the "normal" Coresef" has worked before.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

No prob just download the new Version and check if it works for you.

Due to the bookmark component i guess i have a sef_ext.php file and will check this if it works correctly, if you also have long URL's for this component.

you mean the 'lenght of urls' option? if so, it doesn't work either way. if it's working for everybody else, then the problem is on my end. however i can't seem to figure out what it is...

guess i'll have to go with 404sef. i heard 404 has been discontinued? is this true? if so, is there a link where the author stated this directly? xaneon is giving me a bunch of errors, and 404 is the only one that seems to do the trick. and i refuse to pay for a commercial script, so sefadvance is out of the picture... ???

Tjeerz Preditor for this hack. i am (still) running 4.5.2 mambo (wil swith to Joomla in enar future) and altough the hack gives the main content beautifull URL's the hack is not compatible yet wih Simpleboard. I am a bit confused by the debate in this thread. There seem to be different issues discussed at the same time. Is there already a (mambo 4.5.2 compatible) sollution for the siimpleboard forum posted or are you still woking on it?

Huh?
Why on earth would there be "backwards compatible" to Mambo solution for Simpleboard/CoreSEF?
Move forward.
Convert to a bug-fixed version of Joomla and then start discussing Joomlaboard.
There are many changes to improve and fix Joomla, many affect SEF.
Either go backwards to Mambo, or move forward to new Joomla solutions.

Why would any software move backwards to support older versions while trying to move forward with improved functionality?
Upgrade to Joomla, and then request support for new functions.

Hello,
i like the hack - i also get the "$mosConfig_live_site" effect..
i did a debug session and found that in my constellation the query in line 551 tries to find the Title in content,
but my link is a category blog, so it finds $id=null an this results in the wrong url.
Which is also not correct.. and here we have the "big loop" the Apache Log  does..
127.0.0.1 - - [07/Nov/2005:23:30:28 +0100] "GET /procomportal/menu/Unser_Unternehmen.dhtml HTTP/1.1" 301 -

140x  for my part until it timeouts.. (this ist the long time)

greeting Roberto ;)

Should be fixed now.
Fixed the permissions to make the files, tracker, and forum public.

When the project was created the defaults were set to "private" - weird.

Tjeerzzz,

There are seem to be some problems though. Mainly but not only with articles with long titles

http://eurodusnie.nl/Geen_Paniek/Geen_P ... luche.html
give a
http://eurodusnie.nl/Geen_Paniek/Geen_P ... _live_site

with shorter titels no problem.

Secondly, although in the backend at "Remove Characters:" it says  §,$,%,£,@,?,#,&,(,),+,*,!,;,:
At least the "!" aa title like " Volgende halte: Praag?! " ends up looking like http://eurodusnie.nl/Dusnieuws_archief/ ... html
with .../$mosConfig_live_site as a result.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be highly apreciated

Hi,

programmers technobabble ahead - non programmers feel free to ignore this post

I have to say that coming from a Perl(ish) background I find PHP quite fussy with variable interpolation. It doesn't always work as you expect within quoted strings - I end up playing safe and concatenating quoted strings to variables. The exact behaviour seems to vary between specific 'point versions' of PHP too. Quite quirky really.

Hi Gamesport,

This is one of those hot topics in SEO. Regular expressions see a hyphen as a word boundary and underscores as a 'standard' word character. This causes some people to believe that search engines don't see the underscore as a true 'separator' between words. Other people, probably correctly, believe that just because the programming language doesn't see the underscore as a 'boundary' doesn't mean that the programming team behind the search engines can't work around this behaviour.

As you can see opinion is divided. Personally, I take the view that there is no need to take the risk, use hyphens and be sure that the Search Engines can see separate words. Your mileage may vary.

Dean.

I tried it with MOD

G-translate, but it does not work.

CoreSEF itself is a very nice hack, I really hope it will compatible to work with all other mods.

:)
thank you

I didn't see a answer to this, but that doesn't mean it's not out there.

I am running Mosets and this hack works great with it! I do run in to one problem and I'm not sure how to get around it.

I have 8 templates made and assigned to 8 different Categories in Mosets.  The templates assigned are identified by Itemid,# (i think that's how it works)

CoreSEF kills that tag which makes all the assigned templates default back to the main (global default) template when you view any of the categories. Is there any way around this?

(doesn't have to be mosets, happens to anything with a template assigned)

Thanks!

This is not a limitation of CoreSEF (or OpenSEF, or Advanced SEF Bot, etc).

ALL  advanced SEF components can only create advanced SEF URLs for a 3PD component if there is a sef_ext.php file which has been made specifically for that particular 3PD component.
No sef_ext.php file - no advanced SEF URLs.
The sef_ext.php file is usually created by the developer of the 3PD component. (or some interested user)

Example sef_ext.php files are in the Developer forum on the OpenSEF web site forum.
