This is an example scenario:

Say you have a news item on your home page that has a "Read more..." link to another article on your site.  That link looks something like this:
Read more...

Wouldn't it be nice to create a link that was more friendly? Say, for example:
Read more...

Where in the above: "color" is the alias of the article you are pointing to and "styling" is the alias of the menu item you would like to land on.

Hope this makes sense to you.  I'm sure as a recent newcomer to Joomla I am hopelessly missing the complexities of the original link with respect to the option and task but I thought I would throw it out there.

Did you tested the SEF option on your Global Configuration page? Play with it to see if this address your suggestion.
