J1.5.7 bug - Flash player 10 not supported (fancyuploader)
Suddenly, I am no longer able to upload images in Mediamanager (or JCE texteditor). I am using the Flash uploader, and when I click on "Browse" button, nothing happends.
I am using Joomla 1.5.7
Apache: 2.2.0
PHP: 5.1.2
MySQL: 5.0.18
If I switch back to HTML uploader, it works fine. But I want to use Flash uploader
---
I installed the latest Adobe CS4 package, and it seems that the Flash 10 player does not work well with upload function in Joomla. Tested with another machine with an older Flash player, worked fine.
So, this must be a bug!

Maybe try filing the bug with flash? If it works on 9 but not 10, maybe they broke something by accident? It could be our issue, but I'd check with them first.

It's an option in global configuration...kenseito wrote:I am having the same problem here too..

Re: J1.5.7 bug - Flash player 10 not supported
I am not a Joomla core developer.
I have no idea how the uploader function in Joomla works.
I wasn't aware that this was a Flash uploader until I've read it somewhere on this forum.
I only posted this, because the Joomla uploader no longer works. It would be wrong to involve Adobe to investigate why something in Joomla no longer works.

Re: J1.5.7 bug - Flash player 10 not supported
If Adobe did something in Flash 10 that made it not work with fancyuploader, then I don't see how that is Joomla's fault.

Flash 10 breaks all flash based upload solutions, something I learned easily via Google.
The first link includes advice about how to fix. I'm sure that the fixed libraries will be included in 1.6 assuming they don't break anything.

The development team decided to use the fancyuploader based on Flash, then the development team is responsible to fix it. It make no sense

But what a about all the users who doesn't know how to disable the fancyuploader, because it is set on by default. I feel this is a bug that should be fixed ASAP, because this is one of the nice feature in Joomla 1.5.1.6 should be released sometime in 2009.

Looks like fancyuploader is getting updated to deal with Flash 10.

Yes, that is one of the links I posted above.
@Laban, I think at a certain point people have to take ownership of their sites. If you are considering upgrading your flash or other software do some due diligence to determine if it will break anything.
All in all Adobe's willingness to break tons of sites seems a good reason not to use flash in 1.6 if possible.

Thanks for your positive answer Ian...Thanks for the report. We'll get this fixed for 1.6.
Ian
I had same problem in mediamanager after upgrading flash to v.10 with joomla 1.5.7. Nothing happened when upload button pressed.
Today I downloaded flash-uninstaller and flash 9.
Then I uninstalled and installed flash 9.
Everything works fine in Mediamanager again!
Here are links to adobe:
Uninstaller:

Flash 9:

(fyi: I'm on a Mac - adobe links shows other systems too )

Re: J1.5.7 bug - Flash player 10 not supported (fancyuploader)
We still have an issue there though as quite a few users are getting their flash plugins updated automatically without their consent or knowledge.
I have quite afew reports on this.
I am not sure waiting for 1.6 is a solution here.
An alternative in 1.5.8 could be to choose non-flash as default and change the overlib to explain this known issue.
What do you think?

I would also like to see a J1.5.8 release with either a bugfix or what infograf768 writes. But since already some else has a fix for this bug, then it could be an easy way to fix this bug.
Why not assign this bug to the developer(s) who implemented fancyuploader in Joomla 1.5?

You know the drill.
Try it yourself, report back whether it works or not and what environments you tested.

Hmmm, don't know to whom you are replying.
Shall I post an artifact and patch to change the default to NO for flash uploader and some change in the overlib to state the issue or would I waist my time?

Hmm.. Elin, you know pretty well that changing
<param name="enable_flash" type="radio" default="1" label="ENABLE FLASH UPLOADER" description="ENABLE FLASH UPLOADER DESC">
<option value="0">NO</option>
<option value="1">YES</option>
to default="0 "
and the ini string to include a description of the issue is not a big deal and the patch is quite easy and will work. Even I can do it...
ENABLE FLASH UPLOADER DESC=Select whether the Flash Uploader should be used or not for uploading media in the Media Manager. Default to "No" to avoid issues with users who have installed the Flash version 10 recently released by Macromedia.
So, I will make my question clearer ( thought it was though...):
Do you guys intend to make the patch and commit it or shall I with a chance of committing?
I feel enough concerned that I would but not if I get that type of reply.

The big thing is to make sure that it works with the older versions of flash that are still out there and also to check different browsers/versions.

Ryan did not say he will fix it. he wrote here in a comment:
LeoI am attempting to fix this for JCE too, using the swf from FancyUpload2 but rebuilding some of the accompanying javascript to work with Mootools 1.1
I'll post it to the forge if I can get it right.

Re: J1.5.7 bug - Flash player 10 not supported (fancyuploader)
Till the issue is resolved in a future release than make your choice to roll back to either Flash 9 or better (Flash 9 has some serious security issues as well) disable the flash-uploader in the Joomla configuration (disables Flash upload in media manager) and disable (if you use it) in JCE-configuration and set to HTML-upload
If you want to roll back to Flash 9 you need to uninstall Flashplayer and you need to do this with the Flash uninstaller as provided here If you do not use that you have a lot of remainders left (source: Michael Horowitz on Cnet)
Than you can download the Flash 9 version (42MB) Here and you extract and find the 2 installer files (plugin for firefox and activeX for IE) in the extracted folder
