The post has nothing to do with code...
1) download the file at the end of the post.
2) unzip it on your own PC
3) upload the unzippped file to your website
4) open the file name in your browser (EG: http://www.yourdomain.com/filename.php )
5) choose "Extended" Option
6) press the "Generate Post" button
7) copy the information in the text box
paste it in this thread.....

Well, I am afraid that I doubt I can help you any more if you are unable to understand those basic instructions or make more of an effort yourself here.

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
As described in the other post, the Joomla! "/" folder is where you uploaded Joomla! too, initially.
EG: Where you find the "index.php" and "configuration.php" (plus other) files.

Could you have your backend setup for https/ssl? And you first go to it via http, login, the site switches you to https: forcing you to login a second time.

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
You want ssl enabled. Set your bookmark so you access the https:// site the FIRST time. If you're going to be using Joomla as your primary website application there are some very good docs and tutorials here that I recommend you do some reading and/or Googling for this stuff. The answers are all here.

** This fix only corrected the problem for about 24 hrs. I'm back to square one.
I've suffered for more than a year with having to log in 2x to both front and back end... disabling all but the Joomla authentication plugin cured the issue. Here's the vital info:

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
I ran RussW's script thing which I am having the same problem:
Login Twice
The admin panel works just fine in internet explorer, but when I use chrome or firefox I have to login twice. I've even tested this on a fresh site on my server which I wonder if there is a setting or minor but in joomla.
(By the way I'm actually using joomla 1.5.22 but for some reason I think the title or something did not transfer over when using simplescripts.

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
I'm having to log in multiple times, too. But only in the morning after not using it for the night—I'll log in, start doing something, click to save, then it dumps me back out to the login page. Often happens more than twice in a row. After logging in about three or four times, it's fine for the rest of the day, even if I log out again (cookie problem maybe?).
It's a local installation on WAMP using Joomla 1.6, and Firefox 4 for the backend.

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
For me I know it's not my computer (I've tested at many different locations). I'm pretty sure it's not my server, tested it on another host. Something about non internet explorer things causing this, another reason I don't support ei.
But when I use joomla 1.6.3 it logs in right away the first time.

It seems to help if I actively log out of the Joomla back-end (instead of just letting the session lapse) before shutting my computer down for the night.

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
MAKE SURE that in your configuration.php file you have the LIVE site set to http:// www .mysite.com
Lets say you goto log into http://www.mysite.com/administrator
And the live site in your configuration.php file is correct , you shouldn't get the double log in
But lets say you goto your admin panel without the www and try to log into http://mysite.com/administrator ( notice the www missing )
it then will refresh the page after checking the configuration.php file and then open up http://www.mysite.com/administrator
When IN FACT , you are actually already logged in
Do the test guys , I found this out a while back as it was an annoying little quirk
If all else fails . Remove the line from the config file for LIVE SITE
Just make it
I actually can't leave it like that as it stuffs a few things on my sites . But most are heavily modified
( or you can do a redirect from non www to www or vice versa so it always resolves to what you want it to be )
Hope that helps at least someone as I struggled with it for a long time

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
Hi Ismadmanismadman wrote:MAKE SURE that in your configuration.php file you have the LIVE site set to http:// www .mysite.com
When IN FACT , you are actually already logged in
...
looks like I only get the issue even though my configuration file does have the live site defined. Any ideas are appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
Not sure as I dont know how your server or config is set up . Is there a reason that you need both? If the www. is working , why not do a redirect for all users to the www. version via cPanel or manually through your htaccess file??
This way you could leave your live_site setting as www.
eg.
You should have no double logins at all then
But as for your question , I have never been able to solve that puzzle , so I just did the above and it works great
Hope that helps
Code: Select all
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ "http\:\/\/www\.yoursite\.com\/$1" [R=301,L]
eg.
Code: Select all
var $live_site = 'http://www.yoursite.com';

if you have www. in your config file make sure you do a redirect through cpanel . Do you have cpanel? If not , edit your .htaccess file and add the rewrite condition above in my post and change yoursite to whatever your domain is .

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
Yes, I have access to my .htaccess file via cpanel.ismadman wrote:if you have www. in your config file make sure you do a redirect through cpanel . Do you have cpanel? If not , edit your .htaccess file and add the rewrite condition above in my post and change yoursite to whatever your domain is .
Your suggesting that I add the following, correct? (I added my domain name)
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^e-projectmanagers.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ "http\:\/\/www\.e-projectmanagers\.com\/$1" [R=301,L]
Will this interfer with my functionality on the site in any way? I use a lot of components like AEC, DocMan, and Community Builder.
Thank you

Re: Why do i have to log in twice in backend to log in?
only if any links are hardcoded edits etc.
Alls that edit is doing is redirecting any browser from http://e-projectmanagers.com to http://www.e-projectmanagers.com
Only way is to test it . If it causes problems just remove the edit
Or you can do a www- with or without redirect like
