Menu Item Manager un/publish Default item issue

You can not enable (publish) or disable (un-publish) a "default" menu item from "Menu Item Manager" list view; However, you can publish or un-publish via "Menu Item: [ Edit ]" on a single item.

If you unpublish from single item edit, you will get the same error message as below if you are trying to disable from menu manager list no matter the item already been un-published.

You cannot unpublish the default menu item

If we are no allow to disable "default" menu item, we should make it consistent or vice versa.

I also noticed there are two notices on the top (debug mode on)

Fixed. But unpublising is posible from Menu Item: [ Edit ].

I tested again and no problem on 9241.

Try this ...

Disable the default menu item from Menu Item: [ Edit ].
and trying to enable from Menu List. You will got a message said

You cannot unpublish the default menu item

while you are trying to publish the default menu item.

I'm still trying to get a response to this very issue:

I published a menu as "default" for my home page in error. How do I unpublish and revert back to Front Page Manager?

When I try to edit the menu (individually & as a list) I get a message stating I can't edit the default menu.

Do you still have a front page menu link? If not make one. Then mark it as the default.

Same problem here in Joomla 1.6 I am trying to unpublish a menu containing a default item, but it won't let me. I am trying to set a different article as the default home page in a different menu, but the "Select article" functionality does not work (it has a red border around it)

You need to always have a default item, so first you need to assign a new default, then unpublish the other one.

Not sure what you mean bu the slect article not working, are you clicking on the button to get the pop up list of articles?

Rename the main menu to something like "home menu" and unassign it from all module positions. Remove everything except the desired home page component (the Joomla! default being the one called "Front Page" which displays all the content with the Front Page attribute checked) from this menu module. Though not visible anywhere, the first item will still determine the index page component. (This original first menu is recognized by its id and is special regardless of name and where or whether it appears.)

In your template where you display your logo, link it to your site index page (as suggested by another respondent previously).

Create a new menu (called main menu, top menu, or whatever you wish) for Tab 1, 2, 3, etc and publish it in a position to the right of your logo in your template.
