Browser caching / ETags

Although this is an issue that has arisen with my Joomla 1.5 site, having looked at the code for 1.7.2, it also seems to apply there. Unless I'm very much mistaken, Joomla calculates the Etag for a URL based solely on that URL (including its parameters, of course). That means that, should the underlying content change, it is not reflected in the Etag, and browsers will not (necessarily) fetch the latest content.

Have I misunderstood the situation? If not, is anyone else concerned by it?

Seriously, does anyone care about this? Should I log it in the joomlacode tracker system? Is there any point posting anything to the bug reporting forums?
