BB code [img] broken

This site has been quite a painfull conversion.  The original site was running postnuke, and I was able to convert the gallery and the posts in the forum so I could use them with Joomla.  The issue I have is the BBcode for posting images is broken.  I tested all of the BBcode items in the list but Img is the only one that does nothing.  To get the images in the bottom of the post, I used html to get images to show.  I dont want HTML activated. 

Im lost.  any ideas where to start on this one?  Template? BBcode script? Bridge? 

I know nothing about BBcode, so please point me in the right direction.
