Stand Alone Phpbb2 in Joomla Main Body

Post by don1 » Sat Apr 29, 2006 2:57 am

Hello All!

I have a working forum on my site, as well as a working Joomla.  I don't want integration with logins or anything like that - I just want the forums (which I have changed to have the same main table width as my Joomla - 900px) to appear in the main body of the site, below the header.

The main reason I want this is so users in the forums always have the sites 'Latest Articles' up top in a box.

It is easy to see what I mean if you click here (my site) -

http://www.deus-misereatur.com/index.php

and forums -

http://www.deus-misereatur.com/forum/

Is this possible or do I have to integrate?  I thought of just making an blank article with an IFRAME opening the forums but this dosn't seem to work.

Could somebody please help me?

Nobody has any idea?

All I want is for the forums to APPEAR in the main body through Joomla, as an article would.

Is there some way I can use a frame or something to accomplish this?  Or another way?

Please I imagine it isn't that hard, but I have tried for ages and made little progress.  Or is it fundamentally impossible?

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP

I think I've found someone who had the same problem as me, and got it to work -

Does anyone know how he did it?

Hi Don.

I assume you want something as shown on my site:

http://DoctorWho3D.co.uk

When you hit the FORUM button on the top menu it resolves the Forum site inside a wrapper in the centre frame of the template - keeping the top and bottom frames or whatever you want such as your latest articles.  Due to the Width of the Forum needing a Minimum of 800 pixels I also hide the left and right menus so that no horizontal scroll bars appear - although it will still work even if the size is too small to fit the Forum - although scroll bars appear also for Horizontal.

The way this is set up in my system is I created the FORUM menu as a Wrapper with settings:

Wrapper Link: http://www.
Scroll Bars: Auto
Width: 100%
Height: 500
Auto Height: Yes
Auto Add: Yes

Also - when resolving the Forum I didn't want any Left or Right sidebar items appearing in order to get maximum width for the Forum, so from Modules>Site Modules I selected the relevent modules - such as User Menu and Latest News and then excluded them from TOP MENU>FORUM.

Hope this helps.

Looks like its working now with the wrapper - thanks peterawl, but I do have another question :

How do I get the firefox/IE 'forward' and 'back' buttons to work inside this wrapper?  So those buttons can be used to navigate when browsing the forums?

Because at the moment they don't
